Subject: giant banjos From: Jack Campin Date: 26 May 15 - 07:21 PM I kinda doubt these are real instruments: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GIANT-BANJO/221775170437 because the proportions are the same as a tenor, and surely they'd change for a contrabass. (There's a bass banjo kept on display in a music shop in Whitby - it seems to have a bass drum for a body and the overall proportions of a guitarron, so I'm pretty sure that one is for real). Are they purely display gimmicks? |
Subject: RE: giant banjos From: Desert Dancer Date: 26 May 15 - 10:20 PM They're six-stringers, too. Somebody's bright idea. ~ Becky in Long Beach |

Subject: RE: giant banjos From: banjoman Date: 27 May 15 - 06:39 AM I think they are playable instruments although they seem to be long neck six stringers. Zither banjos are fine when played properly. |
Subject: RE: giant banjos From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 27 May 15 - 07:29 AM 2.6 m! I thought I had seen it all once I ran into cello and bass banjos on youtube. |
Subject: RE: giant banjos From: nickp Date: 27 May 15 - 08:08 AM Home made bass banjo used by this group... Uses half a bass drum and an electric bass guitar neck. |
Subject: RE: giant banjos From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 27 May 15 - 09:41 AM There's no indication that they make music when plucked, and nothing is revealed about where they came from. The seller wants cash and allows for no returns. I would not do business with this person. They could have been props for a clown act, for all we know. |
Subject: RE: giant banjos From: Jack Campin Date: 27 May 15 - 10:01 AM "No returns" is not an issue when they are only sold by collection in person. You'll know what you're getting. |
Subject: RE: giant banjos From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 27 May 15 - 11:23 PM Well, no. They might seem good, but perhaps they don't hold a tune, or perhaps they break strings a lot or perhaps the back falls off when it's raining. etc etc |
