Oh God no! One of the loveliest blokes I ever met, and one of the funniest, and one of the best singers.

I know he reached the big eight-o several years ago, and from what I can gather, was in pretty poor health. So it should be no surprise. But even so, he's left a big hole in a lot of people's lives and he will be very sorely missed.

Jerry, do please make sure you post the funeral details as soon as you can. And please pass on my condolences to everyone you meet.

Micil Ned was, amongst many other things, that rare exception - a storyteller whose stories retained their freshness well past other people's sell-by-date! may the sod rest gently on his gentlemanly head...

Regards

A wonderful man; apart from his talents as a storyteller and singer, he had the gift of making people feel important. He will be missed because of his sense of fun, his lively art, his friendliness and for his grace. We were, for a while graced by his presence, and are poorer now that he is gone, but we have the memories he has blessed us with. Rest in peace, Mick. I wish his family every sympathy.

No posts on the original thread for two days so it drops off the radar.

Just returned from Mullaghbawn this afternoon, after saying a long farewell to our old friend Michael Ned Quinn. Truly the end of an era. He was one of the 'Boys of Mullaghbawn' and 'Bard of Armagh'. Ní bheidh a leithéad arís ann!

I visited Mullaghbawn from Canada in 2013 for a family reunion and we got to hear Mick sing and tell stories. Only heard of his passing now. Amazing man.
I got a short bit of video of him:

The revival of this thread has generated a lot of traffic to my portrait of Mick just as I am in the middle of porting the site onto a new host and a new domain name. The new page is here
