I take this point, Guest Jerome. But would still urge that Linda T is not noted for performing traditional material. However much her singing, and her own creative artefacts, may have been influenced by traditional music, she is not primarily, or even significantly, a singer of traditional songs; whereas the other two are, almost exclusively. It still seems to me an odd combination to study under an ostensibly single head.

My previous attempt to communicate the following sentiments seems to have been lost in transit, so here's another try:

From interviews I've read with her, there can be no doubt that Linda Thompson is an avid enthusiast of traditional music. Her recordings attest to the influence of old ballads on much of her original material, particularly obvious on her last solo album and in her contributions to the more recent Thompson Family CD.

In my judgment she deserves a place alongside June Tabor and Maddy Prior among the leading women of her generation's English folk scene.

Odd trio to choose. Linda T seems manifestly to represent a completely different genre of 'folk', however defined, from the other two; don't at all see where she will fit into Mr Burke's equation.

I wonder if Claire M still looks at Mudcat. As I recall, she was mad about Maddy. She may already have this book.

The book was released three months ago and hasn't made a splash since then. The single customer review on Amazon is quite unenthusiastic.
