Frankly the Rolling Stones are one of the worst bands around today, technically poor.

Oh for a time machine to when they sounded like this live -

No deal. The 50-plussers have got to be there cuz they pay for the girls. Only they're more like 60--

I don't want any fat 50+ execs sitting in the front row boasting how much their tickets cost and wearing 1970's tour lists

They will be moved to make way for young chicks in tight 'T' t-shirts

All the cheap tickets go quickly, olddude.

A few years ago(quite a few, in fact) show producers realized that they, the people who created and presented the shows, were selling tickets at regular prices to people who were marking them up when the show sold out and reselling them--

They sort of figured that, given they had done all the work, they should be the ones to profit, so they started selling premium price tickets. People buy them because, for them, a high price ticket is better than not seeing the show at all.

This logic is wasted on the folks who object to profit(who number greatly in the folk community), and, sadly, it is the sort of thinking that's kept a lot of very talented folk musicians working day jobs and playing on street corners.

And Gargoyle is right, like them or not, the Stones put on a great show. Also, when you pay the big bucks, you get to see the Stones show, but for $10, you just see the Stones, which is not the same thing.

Hi Dan - one or two old wristwatches from the 1930s and 1940s - a 9ct gold Timor from 1932, and an Olma from the 1940s, and one or two others.

How about you?

I suspect it is the promoter and not the stones. It is the old bait and switch. Try to buy them and end up 400 a seat.. Hi Will, any new watches my brother

Last time I heard the Stones live was in Hyde Park in 1969 - for free.

We lived across the road in Queen's Gardens at the time, so used to sit in the sun in Kensington Gardens and the park most sunny weekends, or take a boat on the Serpentine.

We couldn't be bothered to go and stand in the crowd, so we sat in the sun on the fringes of the crowd and heard it all perfectly.

The year before was so much better - we went to the free concert in Hyde Park, with Family, Roy Harper, Fairport Convention, Fleetwood Mac, Stefan Grossman, Peter Sarstedt, Ten Years After. August 24th, a small-ish crowd compared to later events, a warm, sunny day.

I looked interesting in my birds-eye check flares, Bally ankle boots and crimplene shirt with large collars. Long hair and a Davy Graham moustache. Thank God fashions have changed!

I just don't have much interest in seeing bands like the Stones, Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles etc. There are plenty of artists making new, vibrant music and performing in small, comfortable venues I can afford. I sprung 30 buck to see The Waterboys about 2 weeks ago, and well worth it. I will pay about 20 to see Wovenhand next month. But I'm over the Great Icons who charge a hundred just to watch them mail it in.

I went to see them in Knebworth, about 1976, thinking they were past it and it was about the last chance. A fiver it cost, and I was horrified. Was a lot to me in those days. I think though they were a bit past it, they havn't been the same since Brian Jones died.

I have just checked on-line and found two sites that have tickets from $79 to $82. They both state that they are resale sites and may be charging higher than the face value.

Another, claiming to be the official site, has better seats at $170 and $420

@melodeonboy
from your comment you clearly have some inside information about the organisation of this as you seem to know how much the Stones' cut of the take is going to be.

Perhaps you could give us the full costings?

The Stones just did a small theater show in L.A. that had a $10 ticket price. Which they gave back to attendees at the door. Go figure.

Sheer greed! They're already multi-millionaires! They could easily afford to charge less and give something back to some of the less well-off people who've supported them for decades. (That doesn't include me, by the way. I've long thought that they were a bunch of prats!)
