Subject: Ashley Hutchings ,Honoured From: Micca Date: 13 Jun 15 - 05:17 AM I see from an announcements page "Ashley Stephen HUTCHINGS Musician and Songwriter. For services to Folk Music." awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) he is quoted as saying " I'm obviously very proud of this honour but it's England's musical tradition that's being recognised as much as me" |

Subject: RE: Ashley Hutchings ,Honoured From: Steve Shaw Date: 13 Jun 15 - 09:03 AM I'll second/third/fourth that. However, how come he gets a mere MBE whilst Van The Man, most famous for not turning up for gigs, is now Sir Van? |
Subject: RE: Ashley Hutchings ,Honoured From: Reinhard Date: 13 Jun 15 - 09:23 AM And Kathryn Tickell has been awarded the OBE. |
Subject: RE: Ashley Hutchings ,Honoured From: Bonzo3legs Date: 13 Jun 15 - 09:56 AM Fantastic news, well deserved! |
Subject: RE: Ashley Hutchings ,Honoured From: DMcG Date: 13 Jun 15 - 10:21 AM It is a bit of a mystery, though, why Kathryn gets an OBE, which is "higher rank" than MBE, where Ashley Hutchings and the Waterson:Carthy's reside. Not that I begrudge her getting the recognition in the slightest ... |
Subject: RE: Ashley Hutchings ,Honoured From: MGM·Lion Date: 13 Jun 15 - 10:35 AM These 'Member Officer Commander Knight/Dame' distinctions often seem a bit arbitrary, don't they? But it is the recognition that the person deserves to be honoured by having their achievements and contributions publicly acknowledged that is the point of the exercise. Congratulations to Kathryn Tickell likewise. ≈M≈ |

Subject: RE: Ashley Hutchings ,Honoured From: Mr Red Date: 14 Jun 15 - 05:19 AM Kathryn does hold regular teach-ins and workshops to ensure the revival of Northumbrian Pipe music. To mostly the youth of her county. She certainly is engaged with her community. |
Subject: RE: Ashley Hutchings ,Honoured From: GUEST,henryp Date: 14 Jun 15 - 06:23 AM Congratulations to Ashley and Katherine. It's a nice surprise when British - and in this case English - traditional music gets official recognition. Where, I wonder, does the Establishment get its advice from? |

Subject: RE: Ashley Hutchings ,Honoured From: GUEST,Guest Date: 19 Jun 15 - 03:54 PM Just a thought, but could the fact that kathryn T founded a charity to help young musicians and has raised over £100,000 for that charity have anything to do with it? As well as all the teaching she has done over many years. |
