Suzanne Thomas is mentioned in that link which is a bio of the Hot Mud Family. Parts of the group--maybe just one person--joined the Dry Branch Fire Squad, and as they say, the rest is mystery.

If the OP does get back I'll spend more time on this.

Hi, Jon - I'm not quite understanding what you're looking for. # linked to a song titled "Dust Eatin' Cowboys," recorded by the Hotmud Family and written by Dave Gordon. Is that what you seek, or are you looking for more?

DUST EATIN' COWBOYS
(Dave Gordon)

I laid in some wages and went on a spree
But whisky and women got the better of me
Boys, you might as well shoot for the man in the moon
As to shoot for the girls at the Red Dog Saloon

They're too hard to handle and too cold to touch
And their ten dollar kiss is a little too much
The handsome young dandies are always preferred
To the dust eatin' cowboys at the rear of the herd

There's lots of them hungry old rounders around
Who'd give a month's pay for a weekend in town
For an armful of gingham and a glass full of foam
Now they're hustlin' for a train fare to take them back home

But they sold off the prairie for a fist full of change
Now there's barbed wire fences all over the range
Before they did business, they should have conferred
With the dust eatin' cowboys at the rear of the herd

Some folks think everyone wants to do right
But some people out there ain't tryin' tonight
I'd give my right arm and the other one too
If I could do better, like I never do

And I can't help recallin' when the chapel bell chimes
That Peter himself denied Jesus three times
If you talk to heaven, put in a good word
For the dust eatin' cowboys at the rear of the herd
For the dust eatin' cowboys at the rear of the herd

Words and music by Dave Gordon. Jimmy Skinner Music BMI

Thanks all, for the powerful vibes that restored my memory AND my hair. And ignore this, but maybe it will spark a memory, too? The Hot Mud Family was an excellent OT/Bluegrass band, in the 70's, early 80's. And in the 90's some played with Dry Branch.
===
I know I've lost my mind. And memory, too? There were a few songs I've lost along the way. And, am I remembering the right band? We even shared the bill with them a few times.
I'm thinking of the Dry Branch Fire Squad - I'm so positive - but that can't be right. They were old-times'bluegrass
A few songs they did, in the early 80's - 'Country ham and gravy', 'Dust eating cowboy at the rear of the heard'.
I think it was a band, with a married couple as the leads. Susan something? Him? Don't remember. (Suzanne)
I've looked at DBFS's bio, and they did have a female singer - but the name wasn't familiar, and the songs weren't there. I played the songs at my radio show.
Oh - it was '.... Family'.   ^^^ see above
