I am sure a number of people on here will know Brian and may not have heard that he sadly died earlier this week. A lovely man who I used to always enjoy chatting to at the Whitby New Year folkie gathering.

RIP Brian - one of the good 'uns

Very saddened to read this, I saw him only a few months ago and he seemed chipper after his previous heart problems. A nice and gentle man.

Deepest sympathy to his nearest and dearest.

He was certainly very active on Facebook right up until recent days sharing photos of Whitby folkie gatherings from previous years and keeping us informed of the latest addition to the beer range in his local. He will be missed by many

Yes Whitby photo centre was his and carried many photos of folkies over many years

Was with him, Billy Mac, Jude, Murph, Steve and Maggie Robinson, Chris Mullins at spring bank at Norwell (Norrell) and he seemed well enough ~ although many know he was very poorly last year

God bless the man

Ray

Brian was for many years a stalwart of the Hartlepool club, which he often MCed, and of the many manifestations of the Wilsons' club - Station, Smith's and Welly.

He was a fine bloke, generous in his help to anyone who needed it, with a real love of folk music and a profound knowledge of the inner workings of jukeboxes.

I know he hasn't been well for a year or so, but it is sad to know there is another empty set at the singaround.

Derek

We were speaking to Brian at Norwell too. He said that he was feeling much better and looking forward to the future. A gap will be left at many folk dos.

No....
So sorry to hear this.
I thought he'd got over the past couple of years' health issues.
Another of the genuine good guys gone.

How sad. Brian was a lovely bloke, he always came over to say hello whenever he spotted us. He made us feel quite special - I felt that we'd 'arrived' when we got to know Brian.

Thoughts of Brian always had me smiling inside - they'll be sad smiles from now on.

We'll miss him.

We'd very much like to add our condolences to Emma & Ben and the rest of Brian's family - he was a great guy and will be sorely missed.

Notwithstanding the fact that he had recent serious health issues, we thought he'd come through it quite well so I'd also add my shock and sadness to the previous 'posts'. We'd only been chatting with him, less than 10 days ago, when he & Billy Mac were at our Club to see Dick Gaughan, and he seemed on good form.

Yes, Brian has been a regular supporter of all the Clubs that we've run over the last 40 years - indeed he was there right at the beginning of some of them - by his own admission, he wasn't the 'best singer in the world' but he always contributed a hell of a lot just by being there!

He was a gentle, kind, funny and interesting man with boundless enthusiasm and love of the music, songs & culture that bind all us 'folkies' together.
Above all, I think he loved the company of others and, though he was very much a 'blokes bloke', he also had a 'feminine' side which enabled him to converse equally comfortably with those of the fairer sex - and he could 'talk the hind leg of a donkey' if you let him!!

We liked Brian. In world full of acquaintances we are happy to have called him a friend - he was a nice guy! Tom & Meg Wilson

He sounds like a man I would have liked to have known. I have added his name to the "In Memoriam" thread. My condolences to all those who know and love him.

RIP

This news has come as such a shock. I was only reading and responding to some of his comments, beer clip photos and video just a few days ago on Facebook. Like everyone else I thought that Bri was getting much better and I was really looking forward to meeting up with him again and having a good natter at Hartlepool Folk Festival.

He was such a genuinely nice man and an adorable rogue with a love for life and a sparkle in his eye. Once you became a friend of Brian you became a friend for life, could never tire of his company and always looked forward to seeing him again.

God bless you mate you were a one-off. Deepest sympathy to his nearest and dearest and his legions of firm friends and admirers at this time.

We have all lost one of life's real characters and a true gentleman who will be sorely missed by all.

RIP and bless you Brian

Chris

For anyone attending Brian's Funeral , on thursday, from outside the Redcar area. The roundabout adjoining the A174 and Redcar Lane is posted as closing for 10 days as from tomorrow, so diversions may be in place and your Sat Navs may not be accurate. If approaching Redcar from M'bro area or A19 I would suggest using Kirkleatham Lane. From Saltburn and District go through Marske and use Coast Road.

As posted on Facebook

Hello everyone, this is Emma, Brian's daughter. The details for Dad's funeral are as follows:
The funeral will take place on Thursday 16th July, 2.30pm at St.Peters Church, Redcar Lane, Redcar. TS10 3JL.
Followed by cremation at Kirleatham Crematorium, Fishponds Road, Yearby. TS11 8HH at approx 3.15-3.20pm.
We will then have a celebration of his amazing life at Redcar Borough Park Bowling Club, 1 Thwaites Lane, Redcar. TS10 2FD.

ALSO - correction to the above traffic info -   the roundabout is only closing 7pm to 6am. Sorry for the misinformation. However traffic lights in centre of Marske causing long delays so is probably better avoided.

Thanks for this information, Emma - but sadly it's now far too short notice for us to be able to make it (not least as it would have involved our travelling around 100 miles each way). If only you'd posted a few days ago (not everyone has Facebook)...

It's all been such a shock.
Sympathies and condolences from us both.
We'll be thinking of you.
