Good news for South Yorkshire folkies, Kiveton Park Folk Club has Johnny Handle and Chris Hendry appearing next Tuesday 4th August.
Johnny must epitomise the 'legendary' folk performer. He has a reputation second to none, developed over the last five decades. From a jazz and skiffle background to his formation of the first folk club on Tyneside and carried on over the years as a mainstay of the club and festival scene in the UK and abroad, Johnny has been a major force through solo perormances and work with the High Level Ranters. Johnny is an outstanding musician and entertainer and has made a tremendous mark on the folk scene since the sixties. Chris Hendry is an authority on traditional song and a well known and respected performer with a wide repertoire of material. She has spent many years tutoring in singing skills at Newcastle University and is regarded as one of the best performers of traditional material around today.
For an entertaining and stimulating evening of brilliant music, song, wit and good humour, come and see Johhny and Chris at Kiveton, Tuesday 4th. It will be a night to cherish. Kick off 8:45. Admission £6.

Regards

Andy

That's a relief at any rate. I went to Rothbury Trad Music Festival the weekend before last, for the first time in about a decade.

When I got there, I found that Johnny, who had in years past been a stalwart of the festival, was noticeable by his absence. Nobody seemed to know what had happened to him, except that he hadn't been for the past couple of years, and I naturally assumed that he'd been afflicted by old age or illness or both.

Does anyone know whether he's likely to return to next year's Rothbury?

Well done for booking this pair of artistes Andy. I shall hopefully be there on Tuesday if the dreaded work permits. Johnny is, as you say a folk legend and always provides a brill evenings entertainment. Along with Chris, this couple should make a fantastic night for Kiveton. See you there hopefully.

All the best

George
