Dan Schatz will be performing in South Portland Maine on August 8th 2015. He will be supported by Kendall & Jacqui Morse, all three Grammy nominees in one building!

There will be a pot luck supper from 6pm and the concert will start at around 7pm. As usual, there will be a $15 suggested donation

Dan will be showcasing songs from his new album and will have the CD for sale.

Send me a PM if you want more information!

The album is well worth a listen & is available from Folk Legacy, for those who can't make it up to Maine to hear Dan in person!

Best,

I was so pleased when Kendall asked if the three of us could do a concert together - honestly I think that should be the tagline for this thread.

Part of the history - I wrote the song "The Promise of the Sowing" five years ago in Maine, the day before going into South Portland for a house concert at the very same venue. I tried the song out for the first time that night, reading it off a sheet of paper. Kendall was especially taken with it, and since he is one of the artists whose opinion I most respect, I kept singing it, and eventually made it the centerpiece of a new CD, released just this week.

And of course, there's Singing Through the Hard Times - the tribute to Utah Phillips Kendall, Jacqui and I put together six years ago. Producing that CD was, as Kendall commented, "like trying to wrap two watermelons together in wax paper," but oh my goodness, did it work out well.

Plus - well, they're just good people, and they perform first rate songs well. They tell me the show will mostly be me, but I'm especially looking forward to a bit of Jacqui and Kendall. They don't get out to perform often enough.

Dan

It was a full house.
Deb and Tom provided a beautiful spread and their equally warm and beautiful home.
Kendall and Jacqui opened after Singing Through the Hard Times. The audience joined in on every chorus. Carrying Nelson Home, Miners' Lullaby, Where in the World Have the Old Songs Gone?. Not a dry eye in the house.
Dan performed with autoharp, banjo and guitar. His playing is amazing. Most of the songs were from his new CD, The Promise of the Sowing - a keeper. Now is the Cool of the Day by Jean Ritchie, The Promise of the Sowing, Doney Girl {great chorus}, Aint No More Cane on the Brazos (Texas work song),and more. There were a number of requests as well as Queen of the Rails ( and some more tears).
I hated to see the night end. Many thanks to the Coward family and to Jacqui, Kendall and Dan.

Thank you SINSULL for the kind words. I, for one, had a blast. Dan just gets better and better and had some great songs to share.

I just love to watch Kendall turn on the magic when he gets in front of an audience - it never fails.

It was a good house - there were people sitting on the stairs and lots of voices coming in on the choruses.

Deb and Tom, as usual, were perfect house concert hosts. Good food and plenty of it - thanks to all those who contributed to the pot luck - it all looked so good!

We have ideas for a couple more concerts.

Watch this space.......

It was a genuine joy to work with Dan. Good musicians always make me sound good.

The dinner was outstanding. I make a pretty good Shepard's pie myself, but the one Tom made makes mine fair dog food. He told me his secret, FREE RANGE SHEPHERDS !

Jacqui often comments on my talent for grabbing an audience, and I told her where I think it comes from. I think of everyone in the room as a friend, and I'm singing directly to them.

It was so nice to have my dear friend from the past, Annie Campbell, and her husband there.
Jacqui keeps telling me that we should get out and do more music. After last night, I think she's right.

To our dear friend, Mary, it really added more love to the gathering to see that you were able to get there. You health is improving, and we are so relieved.

It was a wonderful evening, coming as it did at the end of a long trip. To see so many friends, and make new ones, and to enjoy the best seat in the house for Kendall and Jacqui's songs - I'm so honored to have been part of it.

And Kendall - you still got it. The voice was decoration - pretty but not the essence of the thing. The essence is you, and somehow, with that decoration stripped away, Kendall the man comes through in a way that Kendall the Personality never could achieve years ago.

And Jacqui, your singing was lovely, just lovely. It was a beautiful evening for me, a concert I'll never forget.

Dan
