Broadstairs is 50. Who has good memories of jack?

I made the right guess of place but only a vague picture; I think it was 1976 when Darlington Mummers did Broadstairs and I've not been there since.
The Darlington Mummers team is also 50 this year.

I remember him, I played Broadstairs a number of times during his era, He was more keen on dance than song

Yes I remember Jack with fond memories. I did the first Broadstairs Festival with him and we had a wonderful time. Also lots of memories of him at The House dancing with Sunday Club and listening to song in the cellar. I also remember his cat who used to sleep on top of the Aga in the kitchen. It always amazed me that it didn't get toasted.

When I first started calling he was kind enough to let me go to a few dances with him. I learnt some crackers.

I think the best one was stopping a dance half way through - and getting the men to go off and find another set of women to dance with. Inevitably there were 3 sets of men down one end of the hall trying to get with one set of women and 2 sets of women with no men at the other end of the hall. It did depend on having good PA.

There was a nice picture of him last night on SE news 10.30 ish + an account of the start of Broadstairs.

Off there myself for a few days. If the weather is nice I'll take my hardanger down to the front - hope to meet a few others and play a few tunes + pop into the ice cream parlour.
