This is probably utterly ridiculous and unsolvable. A long time ago, when I was a little tiny girl, before I can remember of my own memory, I was sung a song which went like this:

Little Boy Moon lives up in the sky,
He's ever so lonely and ever so shy....

Does anyone know anything about it? (Child Education suggests itself as a source.

(I am afraid to say that this is imaginary friend territory, possibly alternative persona as well.)

Penny

I just saw your question on the song "Little Boy Moon". I remember singing it in a music festival when I was about 5 or 6 years old. The lyrics go as follows:

Little boy moon lives up in the sky
He's ever so tiny and ever so shy
He has a house and it's all made of gold
with window's and shutters to keep out the cold.

He rides on a star on the wind soft and light
And mamma moon rocks him to sleep every night
She sings as she rocks him a dream lullaby to
Little boy moon who lives.....up in the sky.

A couple of British dealers in old sheet music are advertising LITTLE BOY MOON by Dunhill/Rose.

Welcome Maxine. They are really sweet lyrics do you remember the tune by any chance?

I'm guessing that would be Thomas F. Dunhill and Margaret Rose, who are listed as co-composers of some other choral pieces.

I can see why I didn't revisit this before! Thank you Maxine, are you still around?
I do sort of have a tune in my head.
I identified myself, for some reason, as little boy moon (clearly unaware of gender issues), but also had a red ball with a face on it which was also little boy moon.
Ah well.

Penny

I have just searched the first line of this song and found this thread. Why did I search these lyrics? because MANY years ago, I sang this song in a music festival and I wanted to see if I could find it again.

Remembered this song from "many moons ago" when I participated in music festival as a little girl. Still remember the lyrics. Up the Airy mountain was another song. They have remained in my head.. Been searching to see if I still have all the words correct.

I was ready to ask this question too.... I remember this from grade 2, singing it in our school festival. I actually still remember the tune and sing it sometimes when I'm housecleaning..... If I was in Grade 2, it would have been 1960.

I remember the tune.... And as I see these words written, I am singing them in my mind... :) I was in the second grade at St. Joseph's school in Saint John N.B. We sang this for our school during the Singing Festival.... That would have been 60/61....

I remember this lullaby as a very young child.I always wondered who sang it to me, my parents and siblings couldn't tell me. I am thinking as it was around 60/61 I would have been 4 and was at nursery. We had a nap in the afternoon so can only think the staff sang it to us. So pleased others recognise it too.I have googled it many times and nothing had come up but I was lucky this time.

I, too, remember this. I sang it as a child when competing at a local music festival in Yorkshire. I vaguely remember the music being by E Markham Lee, but I could be wrong about that.

The person who has supplied the words has them correct in every detail as far as I can recall - I'm now a bit long in the tooth having been born in 1942.

I also think that I won the class in which I sang, as a child, and went on to win in other classes in various parts of the country, as an adult.
