I would LIKE to be able to tell you that this month's Press Room (Portsmouth, NH) Shanty, Forebitter and Foc's'l Ballad will take place this Saturday, August 15, 2015…but I can't authoritatively and positively say so.

Word as of this morning (Wed.) from the general manager is that there is still "Alarm system, electrical work, flushing of lines, inspection…" to be accomplished, an estimated three days. Which means there's a possibility we could meet at The Press Room… But considering the way things have been going, it's not something we can count on.

To make matters worse, I've got a computer problem with my primary computer -- so I'm currently unable to access my email address book or my bcc update list.

We ARE still working on one more possible Portsmouth venue for this month's gathering, and the Friday trad session will again meet at Red & Shorty's in Dover, NH. We can't have the shanty sing there because Bob Franke will be there giving a songwriting workshop and concert.

Please keep checking here -- I'll update as soon as I can. I really hope it doesn't have to be cancelled again this month.

Okay. Here's the bad news.

I think I have to cancel this Saturday's August sea music sing. We've (thank you, Dianne!) checked out one more alternative location, but it's not going to work. Both it and another venue have offered their patios, but Accuweather says there's a 60% chance of thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and Yahoo Weather says 50%. This also rules out meeting on Four Tree Island.

This is too iffy for people coming any distance.

I have NO ACCESS to my bcc email update list, so, please everyone, let everyone know because I can't other than Mudcat and Facebook. And when you check in here, please refresh this thread if it needs to be.

The Friday trad session will probably again be at Red & Shorty's.

There is still a SLIGHT possibility we can meet at The Press Room if everything goes smoothly and the installation of the sprinkler system and the alarm system gets approved before Saturday.

Please check back here -- but I'm not holding my breath. I know people are disappointed -- but I'm even more disappointed. Small consolation, but there it is.

How 'bout all you other singers who always/sometimes/hardly ever show up?

Of course I read this, Linn, I start checking for your posts the Sunday before the session. I'm sure Pete is up to speed, he's the only one I might need to notify. How about Maine and the folks around Cape Ann? Miss two sessions in a row? How will I cope........... Perhaps the Gods will yet smile, I'll keep checking!

Thank you. At the Facebook group "Pressroom Gang and Clan" (sorry about the one word thing; I didn't set up the group) it tells me how many people (and who they are) who have seen the post. Unless you leave a comment here or refresh the thread, I have no idea who has seen this post.

Just heard from Bruce Pingree this morning. I asked, "What's happening, Bruce? Is it going smoothly or hitting snags? Any better idea when music will be back?" He said, "Of course not..the sprinkler guys were here Wed and today. I'm trying to find out what's up with the alarm system install.. That shouldn't take long, but I have no idea when they will be doing it..I asked Jay yesterday, he didn't know, but said he'd try and find out today..." The I said, "So that's why it's taking so long...they're not there every day, huh?" And he replied, "They have so much work, we're not the only place that waiting until the deadline to do this...the guys working here have no control over where they go each day...go in to the shop and get the orders...it's driving them crazy too... Not sure at all about the alarm ." So that's the absolute latest news, from less than five minutes ago. By the way, both Accuweather and Yahoo Weather are now saying 60% chance of thunderstorms tomorrow.

I can't access my bcc update list for the simple reason that my primary (desktop) computer is down. I've been working on this iPad and a backup laptop. Everything on the primary was backed up via Time Machine on an external hard drive...so I thought. When I plugged the external into the laptop, it appears that it DIDN'T back up files on the desktop (such as my bcc update list), my address book, or my primary document folder. I'm more than a little annoyed with the tech (a friend who did a lot of work for free on my old computer) who set it up. If Time Machine only backed up certain folders, I wish I had known so I could have accommodated that.

I've been in touch with my most trusted tech, but, since it wasn't actually an emergency (and still isn't despite the major aggravation of not having my bcc list or PMFF performer emails or my archived emails), he hasn't actually come out to save my posterior.

Yes hah! My tech just saved my posterior and told me the (convoluted) way to get to ALL my docs on the external hard drive that, with Time Machine, backed up my primary computer.

He can't come out and fix the computer until the 24th, but at least now I'll be able to access ALL my files on my laptop, and download everything from my primary to my laptop.
