Subject: RE: whitby English tune sessions From: GUEST,Ebor Fiddler Date: 14 Aug 15 - 02:37 PM Joy - at least one of the "lovers of English Music" is - a) Also an accomplished American Music player. b) Also from York. See you there, Chris |
Subject: RE: whitby English tune sessions From: Spectacled Warbler Date: 14 Aug 15 - 01:21 PM Plenty of American tunes on Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday afternoons, if I remember rightly, when a group of excellent musicians from York come across. Plenty of English tunes then as well. The evenings in the Board tend to be mainly English. Hope you find somewhere Joy |
Subject: RE: whitby English tune sessions From: Mary Humphreys Date: 14 Aug 15 - 08:44 AM It all depends on who turns up. We have been at the Board when Nick Barber and Neil Brookes have been there. English tunes are the order of the day. If you want a workshop on English tunes in harmony, come to our workshop at the Con club on Thursday, 10am. You don't have to learn the harmonies - you can just learn the tunes from Bray, Playford, William Clarke, Atkinson. |
Subject: RE: whitby English tune sessions From: GUEST,Guest Date: 13 Aug 15 - 08:15 PM Amazingly whenever I have visited the Board it has been predominantly American material? |
Subject: RE: whitby English tune sessions From: GUEST,Ebor Fiddler Date: 13 Aug 15 - 07:30 PM The Board in Church Street, at the bottom of the 199 steps, is a gathering place for lovers of English music. |
Subject: RE: whitby English tune sessions From: Banjo-Flower Date: 13 Aug 15 - 02:47 PM I believe Ken Watson hosts an English tune workshop/session so that could be a starting point for you Gerry |
Subject: RE: whitby English tune sessions From: Mo the caller Date: 13 Aug 15 - 02:37 PM Which is OK if you recognise the names. Maybe Guest could give some pointers. |
Subject: RE: whitby English tune sessions From: GUEST Date: 13 Aug 15 - 12:13 PM I have not heard of anything being explicitly organised as an English session. For the official sessions be guided by the choice of session leaders. |
Subject: RE: whitby English tune sessions From: Jack Campin Date: 13 Aug 15 - 08:53 AM The Elsinore is mostly English tunes, but other stuff does get played. Which is fine by me. |
