That's great, Rex. I'm glad so many could celebrate with you.

Pegie Douglas and I did shows all around Custer S.D. this weekend but the best was at the Badger Hole, the home of Badger Clark for the latter half of his life. We were going to do the show in the cabin expecting just a handful of visitors. Then we thought maybe we could perform on the porch but more people came. We ended up piling them on the porch and cascading down the slope. Pegie and I were on the slope below that. The Custer State Park staff declared they had never seen so many cars in the parking lot. It was great to see the folks of Custer turn out to celebrate their own "Poet Lariat"!

Rex

I too would love to be there. I've set some of his verses to music.

Charles Badger Clark published his first book of poetry, Sun and Saddle Leather in 1915. Pegie Douglas and I have been planning a celebration of the centennial of this great work since we met in 2010. We will be performing in the home of the "Poet Lariat", the Badger Hole at 1:00 and the Tatanka Barn Theatre at 7:00 Sunday, August 23. We will be doing some other spots around Custer Friday and Saturday. Shebby Lee, Badger's great-grandniece will join us at his home, the Badger Hole to share some stories of the Clark family and perhaps some of her great-great uncle's poetry. Horse pack guide, encyclopedia of cowboy songs and friend, Bob Lantis will join us at the Tatanka Barn Theatre to share some of Badger's poetry and song.Come join us at the Custer State Park this weekend
in Custer South Dakota to remember the poetry in verse and song of Badger Clark.

These shows are sponsored by Custer State Park and the South Dakota Historical Society and free to the public. Click on the link to the South Dakota Historical Society below for more information.
