I’m a hayseed
My hair is seaweed
And my ears are made of leather
And they flop in stormy weather
Gosh oh hemlock
I’m tough as a pine knot
I’m a Girl Scout bugger boo.

Tough as a pine knot
I’m from Tonawandah, you see!

And from Camp Medicine Bow at Floral Park in Bellegose, NY

Camp Medicine Bow Song        Troop Cheer
Play Me

Oh I'm a hayseed.
My hair is seaweed
and my ears are made of leather
and they flop in rainy weather.
Oh gosh oh hemlock, HEY!
I'm tough as a pine knot, HO!
For I come from Medicine Bow,
Can't you see?
HEY, HEY, Bow for the bow.
RAH, RAH, Bow for the bow.
RAH, RAH, HOO-RAH, HOO-RAH.
Medicine Bow, RAH, RAH, RAH. YEA!

I'm a hayseed.
My hair is seaweed,
And my ears are made of leather
And they flop in windy weather.
Gosh oh Hemlock,
I'm tough as a pinenut.
I'm from MAR-Y-MAC!
Can't you see?

And a version from the Lazy W Camp, which appears to have been on Lake Alfred in Florida

I'm a hayseed, my hair is seaweed
and my ears are made of leather
and they flop in windy weather
Gosh oh hemlock, I'm tough as a pine knot
I'm a Lazy W Camper from the South
Hi Y'all!

One of the favorite expressions of my sainted mother-in-law was, "Gosh all hemlock."

We had no idea what it meant or where it came from.

Here's another version, customized for Damp Bonnie Brae:

https://central-western-ma-campsongs.my-free.website/unit-songs#:~:text=Tyro,Gosh%20oh%20hemlock!

Oh, I'm a hayseed, my hair is seaweed,
and my ears are made of leather and they flop in rainy weather.
Gosh oh hemlock! I'm tough as a pine nut!
For I'm a Tyro girl you see.

Over rocks, over stumps, in 150* jumps,
from the Big House to Tyro we go.
There you'll see counselors three
in the shade beneath the trees,
guiding good campers on their way.
For it's work and play for the Tyro girls today.

Shout out your letter proud and strong! T-Y-R-O!
For wherever we go, you will always know,
we are good campers from Bonnie Brae.
Yes we are! we are good campers from Bonnie Brae!
V-K-D^!

150 is starred, because, as the CIT 1 group of 2015 determined, it takes 250 large jumps from Big House to Tyro. However, 150 is the original lyrics, which is why it was left as is.

At JCC Summer Day Camp in Baltimore, MD during the mid-1950s we used this version.

I'm a hayseed
My hair is seaweed
My ears are made of leather
And they flap in windy weather
Gosh oh Hemlock
Strong as a Pine knot
We're the girl's in camp(sung by girls)
We're the boy's in camp (sung by boys)
And we're all from the JCC

The girls and boys always tried to out shout each other on their lines
The song also included gestures with each line.

I'm a hayseed.
My hair is seaweed,
And my ears are made of leather
And they flop in windy weather.
Gosh oh Hemlock,
I'm tough as a pinenut.
I'm from MAR-Y-MAC!
Can't you see?

Oh, I'm a hayseed; my hair is seaweed.
And my ears are made of leather and they flap in windy weather.
Gosh, oh hemlock; tough as a pine knot,
Oh, I'm a Cub Scout can't you see; double-e!

There are gangs of versions. Do a simple Google search and you'll be upto your neck in the things.

For some stoopid reason, I've had the first two lines of a camp song ringing through my pea brain. I was ten when I was shipped off to camp so my parents could have a break from me. All I remember of that experience was the first few lines of this ditty:

"Oh I'm a hayseed, my hair is seaweed,
And my ears are made of leather, and they flap in windy weather ..."

Can anyone fill in the rest of the song? Thanks, bob(deckman)nelson
