Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Stan of Jesmond Dene (George Welch) From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 19 May 21 - 07:31 AM Belated reply Kit! Yes it could be! I wouldn't like to say it was definitely that, but it would make sense - good suggestion. Even if that isn't the exact word it would be usable in the song. Mick |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Stan of Jesmond Dene (George Welch) From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 14 May 21 - 05:35 AM Here's my transcription, with I think only one thing I'm not sure of. Mick STAN OF JESMOND DENE (George Welch) While walking through the Dene one neet, why a feeling came on me, I looked around and saw nae one, so I weed against a tree. I thowt that I was being watched, but the place was so serene, Then from the bushes did he jump, 'twas Stan of Jesmond Dene. He shouted as he louped aboot, why I thowt that I should flee But I couldn't ?ayte? that space in time, still weeing on the tree. I thowt that I was seeing things, nae man could gan sae far, But reet enough aal he had on was suspendies and a bra. A flash of flesh a spot o' bobs and then a sudden rush, He vanished reet in front of me by hiding in the bush. I quickly walked the other way but nowt more to be seen, I didn't want to see nae more of Stan of Jesmond Dene So if you want to have a laugh, or see a wondrous sight Just tek a walk through Jesmond Dene, why, especially at night. And if you've got a Macintosh and summick to be seen, Try lurking in the trees at night like Stan of Jesmond Dene. Dene, Jesmond Dene. When I see you in the park, When I meet you in the dark, Whenever I get you, all you want to do Is scream, Jesmond Dene. I will show you mine, hiding from the vine, anytime, night or day The only trouble is, gee whiz, they're cutting the privet away. When I see you in the park When I meet you in the dark Whenever I get you, all you want to do Is scream, Jesmond Dene Stan of Jesmond Dene

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Stan of Jesmond Dene (George Welch) From: GUEST,guest Date: 13 May 21 - 06:15 PM George is still performing in the North East and on youtube. He has a website so he would be contactable for the missing words. My favourite 25th wedding present was one of George's wonderful cartoons.A very talented man. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Stan of Jesmond Dene (George Welch) From: GUEST,James Phillips Date: 12 May 21 - 06:51 AM Having spent much of my youth stoned out of my mind in the very same Jesmond Dene, I'm surprised I'm just learning there was a song about it now. The lyrics resonate as well, since a friend of mine was arrested in the Dene many years ago for weeing against a tree. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Stan of Jesmond Dene (George Welch) From: cnd Date: 11 May 21 - 01:41 PM Here's my attempted transcription of the Serenaders one. Note, lots of holes. STAN OF DESMOND JENE While walking through the dene one night, a feeling came on me I looked around and saw no one so I weed against a tree I thought that I was being watched, but the place was so serene Then from the bushes did he jump, 'twas Stan of Jesmond dene He shouted as he laughed about, why I felt that I should flee But I couldn't ??? that space in time, I'm still weeing on the tree I felt that I was seeing things no man could ?gance? afar But treats enough away out on was the ?spandies and the branch? The flash of flesh ?as spotted bobs? and then a sudden rush He vanished right in front of me by hiding in the bush I quickly the other way but not more to be seen I didn't want to see no more of Stan of Jesmond dene So if you want to have a laugh or see a wondrous sight Just take a walk through Jesmond dene, why, especially at night And if you've got a Macintosh and a ?summolk? to be seen Try lurking in the trees at night like Stan of Jesmond dene Dene, Jesmond dene When I see you in the park When I meet you in the dark Whenever I get you, all you want to do Is scream, Jesmond dene I will show you mine hiding from the vine, anytime, night or day The only trouble is, gee whiz, they're cutting the privet away When I see you in the park When I meet you in the dark Whenever I get you, all you want to do Is scream, Jesmond dene Stan of Jesmond dene |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Stan of Jesmond Dene (George Welch) From: cnd Date: 11 May 21 - 01:29 PM Thanks for that link, that was easier to understand. Here's my transcription of the second one. It's a parody of the Everly Brothers song, All I Have to Do Is Dream. Unfortunately the Cheap Sunglasses Serenaders rendition has several more verses I'm struggling to get, but I'll post it separately. The first verse and chorus and chorus is shared, but the Serenaders add several lines. STAN OF JESMOND DENE While walking through the dene one night, a feeling came to me I looked around and saw no one so I weed against a tree I thought that I was being watched though the place was so serene Then from the bushes did he jump, 'twas Stan of Jesmond dene Dene, Jesmond dene Dene, Jesmond dene When I see you in the park When I meet you in the dark Whenever I see you, all I wanna do Is scream, Jesmond dene Scream, Jesmond dene I will show you mine if you'll pay the fine, anytime, night or day Only trouble is, gee whiz, they're cutting the credit away When I see you in the park When I meet you in the dark Whenever I see you, all I wanna do Is scream, in Jesmond dene Scream, in Jesmond dene |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Stan of Jesmond Dene (George Welch) From: cnd Date: 10 May 21 - 06:50 PM Thanks for that, GUEST. The song can be found at about 8:20 from the above video (or, click) I was going to attempt a transcription but I had a rough time at the start and think it would help if someone else with a better ear for the accent came along and filled in some holes first. |
