There's an unofficial p*ss-up in Cardiff tonight (Saturday) organised by the former Taplas staff, who will raise glasses in Keith's memory. The plan is to start in The Old Arcade in the early evening at about 5.30 to 6-ish, going on to The Royal Oak. Unfortunately I can't make it as I'm watching the England-Wales "group of death" World Cup match tonight; but I plan to drink to Keith when the official one is announced.

Message to Ross: Dr Price is relegated, as of last night. From now on, I'll be using my own name!

So sorry to see Keith go; he was an erudite and highly intelligent editor. When the Blair Government published the complicated, confusing and totally unfair Licensing Act, Keith took it upon himself to report in plain terms how it affected the folk music scene. He also had a sixth sense about up-and-coming acoustic artists. We shall not see his like again.

Mick Tems is indeed the same - usual Mudcat identity is Dr Price.

Keith's passing is a sad loss to the folk music scene in Wales and the borders. He put his heart and soul into producing Taplas, the magazine, provided a vital service. R I P Keith, sad to see you go.

Yes, an interesting read; I will vouch for that. Keith always regarded Taplas as being a cut above all the usual folk scene magazines, and it showed.

Is Mick Tems the same Mick Tems who wrote articles in Taplas?

So sorry to hear this. I only met Keith once - when he visited the Fylde Folk Festival here in Fleetwood many years ago he sought me out, as one of his local subscribers. Taplas was always an interesting read. After keeping people connected for so long, so sad that he lost those links latterly.
Ross

The former Taplas staff released a Press release at 8.30 last night:

"The former editorial board of Taplas magazine are saddened to announce the death of editor Keith Hudson on 27 June 2015.

"Keith had been in ill-health for many years, and had spent time in and out of hospital.

"He founded Taplas – billed as the Voice of Folk In Wales and the Borders – in 1982 to replace the defunct South Wales Folk News. The magazine ran bi-monthly for 32 years, initially on paper and in the last two years as a pdf, and was regarded as a powerhouse of information. Keith held the post of editor from 1982-2007, when ill-health intervened, and took up the reigns again in 2011. He was also an accomplished photographer, illustrating many Taplas articles with his own pictures.

"The former editorial board would like to express our sympathy with his family at his loss.

"While we are unaware of any official charity nominated in his memory, should anyone wish to make a donation we would suggest Diabetes UK.

"For further information and obituary information for the folk music scene, please contact Iain Campbell on Iain.campbell@ntlworld.com ."

In his advancing years, Keith became detached from the folk world. Those of us who knew him found it so sad that he had died in the summer - and none of us even knew.

Mick Tems
