Subject: Johnny's Gone Aloft From: Metchosin Date: 02 Dec 99 - 10:46 PM Has anyone heard of this song or know the lyrics? It was sung in mock sorrow by my grandfather and cronies when they were in their cups. There is a line in the song about Johnny having big blue eyes like a girl. The family would like to resurrect it, although I have a feeling that if they knew the full lyrics they may wish they had let it |

Here a sheer hulk, lies poor Tom Bowling Tom never from his word departed Yet shall poor Tom find pleasant weather
Dibdin wrote a great many popular songs in his time (over 1000, apparantly) and contributed more than most to the development of the Pantomime. Do you have the tune (it's a grand one)? If not, I'll post it to the midi site. Malcolm |

I sure could have saved myself a late night in the library if I had. Oh, well, I did get a bit of an education there. A belated thank you. Susan Oh yes, Now I think I am looking for a parody of the song. |
