Subject: Lyr Req: Parody of 'Three Coins In A Fountain'
From: GUEST,Sneckie

Years ago I heard an elderly woman from Glasgow singing a parody version of the Jule Styne/Sammy Caan song "Three Coins In A Fountain". It told the story of three women queuing up, waiting for a shop to open during the January sales. Each woman had her eye on the same bargain. After a fight broke out, they all ended up getting arrested and charged.

I can't remember any of the words other than the final verse which ran something like this:

"Three wives in a courtroom
Each one hoping for a fine
But the judge has decided
One of them is doing time.
Make it mine!
Make it mine!
Make it mine!"

Can anyone help with the rest of the lyrics?

I had a version of this about 20 years ago from the late Alex McKie of (the) Felling- on- Tyne- I still do it now & then if it's the right kind of place & indeed put it on a CD some years back...

Three wives in the Fountain
(which is a pub in South Shields. my home town)
Each one knocking back the stout
There they stand in the Fountain,
Too blind drunk to stagger out.

Three wives in the Fountain
Wondering which way they should roam
There they stand in the Fountain
Too blind drunk to stagger home

Which one is the biggest pest?
Which one will the cops arrest?
Their coins they are counting
Wondering who will pay the fine
Only one wife will be sentenced
Only one wife doing time,
Make it mine
Make it mine
Make it mine.....

I recall Frankie Howerd singing this parody on tv ... he donned a wraparound raincoat and tied a headscarf beneath his chin, and sat at a small wrought iron table very reminiscent of Ena, Martha & Enid at the Rovers Return in Corrie ... I have been searching for this classic comedy sketch for years ..,

Street song when we were kids.

Three coins in a phone box
Each one dialing 999
Marylin Monroes had a baby
Well done Dickie Valentine.

I had a vague memory of The Goons doing their version of this song and Wikipedia
did not let me down. It was from "The Affair of the Lone Banana
"

"Three Goons in a fountain - which one will the fountain drown - I have got a shop full of Schmutters "

*Smart Bajan* - "Three Coins in a Fountain"

The Mighty Sparrow has his measure with this c.1967 parody.
