I suppose it's a truism to point out that there is plenty of room in the world for traditional folksingers AND Rod Stewart (& in many people's tastes for that matter), who imo is a highly professional performer with efficient audience technique and powerful and tuneful voice who has worked hard for his fully deserved success. Interested to read in his Wikipedia entry that he names as prominent among his early influences Ewan MacColl and Bob Dylan.

If only there were more 'folk' singers with voices as good as Rod Stewart's...

Perhaps folk singers could plug mics into an overdrive or fuzz box before going into the PA.

FWIW I don't think the forum was ever about serious traditional music but it is a hotbed of controversy when it comes to peoples likes and dislikes :-(

I realise this forum should be for those serious about traditional music but it lost its way a long time ago.

Good article. Thanks Gargoyle. Rod Stewart does a few numbers that have obvious folky influences and, regardless of the ridicule it may bring me, I have always quite liked his stuff. Well, some of it. Don't mention "Do you think I'm sexy" :-)
