Subject: Lyr Req: Golden Star of Freedom From: GUEST,David Love Date: 29 Oct 15 - 12:59 PM I have just tracked down The Song of the Jolly Roger, successfully identified in a separate thread. I sang this as a 10 year old at school around 1967. In the same concert we also sang another song which I think was called The Golden Star of Freedom. I can't track down any information about this song and wonder if it rings a bell with anyone. There were 3 verses and this is what I can remember: Shine through the night. Shine on where the stars are rifted (?) We'll follow the light That beckons far away. Dauntless and gay, our loyal hearts uplifted We'll follow the golden star of freedom. Brave pioneers Who sailed when the nights were falling They showed us the way In epic bygone years. Hark what they say, across the ages calling We'll follow the golden star of freedom. 'though winds may blow And strong timbers yield and sever Skies thunder above And breakers crash below. Ours is the love that welcomes high endeavour We'll follow that golden star forever. I'm sure I've rewritten some of this but any information and/or corrections would be welcome. Thanks. David |
