In one of Florence King's books she tells the story of herself as a teenager plunging out of a car as the local policeman snatches open the door on her petting with a boy. The policeman shakes his head regretfully and says:

Fallen and forgotten
Without a good man's name

and young Florence, a well-brought-up Deep South girl, atavistically completes the verse:

She dreams of Indiana
As she walks the streets of shame.
