Subject: BBC The British Seafarer From: GUEST,CJB Date: 09 Nov 15 - 05:03 AM There is a project along the lines of 'The Long March of Everyman' to collect and restore lost &/or missing episodes of the 26-part radio series 'The British Seafarer.' In part this is to honour the producer Michael Mason's work, but also because the series has been well 'lost' and now may only exist on home taped cassettes. http://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/search/0/20?q=the+british+seafarer#search http://www.ex-bbc.net/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1405000869 Please add a comment here is you have any cassettes or reel-reel tapes that you could loan this project. Thank you |

Subject: RE: BBC The British Seafarer From: GUEST,SByers Date: 26 Jan 16 - 04:21 AM We now have these episodes on CD (actually DVD RAM) - each file is 500MB in FLAC format. They have been digitised by an expert from reel-reel off-air recordings. They are just about broadcast quality. The search continues for the other episodes. === 2 Canvas, Hemp and Wood (intro / outro missing) 3 The High Seas 4 The Merchants 5 Charts, Sea-Clocks and Stars 6 The Complete Seaman 7 Stresses, Strains and Storms 8 The Long Blockade 11 Missing, Lost and Saved 13 Fisherman 20 The Dreadnought Navy 23 Jutland 24 The Battle of the Atlantic, 1939-45 (first 45 min) === Now what to do with the recovered recordings is a moot point. |
