The Overd faily have a young lass singing a couple of her songs, and have made a short film about Emma Overd. Lovely to see the photos.
I met Josie Overd some years ago in Langport.

the relative narrating the second part of the film is Shirley Nicholas who gave the people at the 2003 conference organised by Folk South West to celebrate the centenary of Sharp's first song collecting, a talk about Emma Overd next to the ruined cottage. Shirley was the school secretary at the school where Tony Rose used to teach.

Thanks for pointing out this site. Amanda Boyd and John Shaw came to Marion VA last year, and of course they were wonderful.

By the way go to the British Library and the Cylinder recordings link and there is a copy of Sharps recording of Jack Barnard of Bridgewater singing Lady Maisry. Great to hear his voice.
Love to hear all the recordings digitally re-mastered. I bet a parametric EQ could help.

Derek has just produced his final issue of English Dance & Song and we all owe him a huge thanks for the way the magazine has thrived under his stewardship.

His retirement will mean that he will be able to devote more time to researching earth-shatteringly important historical information on the minutia of the folk revival, like the fact that is quoted above. I, for one, will be waiting with bated breath.

Oh! and whilst we have talking about Tony Rose, on the sleeve notes of his 1970 LP Under The Greenwood Tree (Trailer LER 2024 ) he talks about about:-
The treatment (of "The Lark In The Morning") is jointly inspired by by two fine pairs of singing brothers - The Coppers and The Everlys.

Ah, but the "Coppers" that Tony was referring to - Bob and Ron - were cousins and not brothers. Just thought that I would put the record straight after 45 years,

You see? When it comes to folk trivia, I am a match for Schofield any day.

Wonder why Sharp never recorded Mrs. Overd? Maybe she would have nothing to do with 'putting her voice in a box' I've met several singers who were microphone shy.
