Subject: Judy Hill - 1960's Folk Singer, Atlanta From: GUEST,Lin Date: 26 Nov 15 - 07:13 PM I have this obscure folk LP by an American folk singer named, Judy Hill. The name of the LP is "The Folk Sounds of Atlanta Presents the Versatile Voice of Judy Hill." Record Company is called, Criteria Record Dist. Atlanta, Georgia There is no date at all anywhere on the record itself or on the LP jacket cover. However, my guess is that it is probably from about 1965 based on the folk songs she sings (all covers or trad songs) like Four Strong Winds, This Train, Motherless Child, The Cruel War and others. Also, the picture of Judy Hill on front of LP jacket is typical of early or mid-60s. I tried doing a search on Google but came up with nothing, only a current young singer named Judith Hill who is black and not the same person as Judy Hill from the 1960's. Does anyone know of Judy Hill? I also tried looking up the record company which was probably a small company - Criteria Record Dist. but found nothing. No other musicians are listed and I think it was just Judy Hill and her guitar only. Record company probably long gone anyway. There is a record company engineer listed named Gordon Able from Atlanta Sound Recording Studios, Inc. but still no luck there either. Judy Hill looks very young in the photograph, maybe 20 or 21 (or maybe even a little younger) with short hair, holding her guitar. (black & white photo) If anyone knows of this singer please post. I only have this one LP so don't know if she released any others but once again it is not Judith Hill who's name came up on Google when I typed in "Judy Hill" Judith Hill is a Black singer and current and Judy Hill is Caucasian singer from the mid-60's. Thank you. |

Subject: RE: Judy Hill - 1960's Folk Singer, Atlanta From: maeve Date: 27 Nov 15 - 06:26 AM Odd- I was sure we'd had a thread on Judy Hill in the past but have not been able to track it down. Mr. Google tells me there was a copy of her album on eBay in the past in which she appeared to be described as "lead singer for the Hill Singers". |

Subject: RE: Judy Hill - 1960's Folk Singer, Atlanta From: GUEST,Lin Date: 28 Nov 15 - 01:35 AM Maeve posted a message mentioning the mentioning Judy Hill being lead singer of the Hill Singers from an ebay listing. Unless she had more then one album, there was no mention at all of "Hill Singers" on the LP I have. Judy Hill is the only singer on "The Versatile Voice of Judy Hill." She is the only singer and no other musicians are mentioned or can be heard. Only Judy & her acoustic guitar. Google mention of Judith Hill - is NOT the same person. Judith Hill is a black lady and not a folk singer from the early or mid-1960's. Judy's LP was from approx. 1964 or '65. She appears to be around 19-21 years old in the black & white photo from the LP. (just my guess of her age though.) |
