Subject: Origins: 'Coronach' sung by Jethro Tull From: GUEST Date: 02 Dec 15 - 08:12 PM This lovely song, in spite of its title, it seems more like a hymn of praise than a lament, and the gorgeous refrain seems to be nonsense sounds (or is that normal for a coronach?). All I've been able to find out is who wrote it, who sang it, and a general and vague definition of 'coronach'. Any valid input would be cherished. |

It has been released as a single but has only appeared on one Tull Compilation album. That is all I have been able to discover. It is also on YouTube. |
Subject: RE: Origins: 'Coronach' sung by Jethro Tull From: GUEST,# Date: 02 Dec 15 - 09:16 PM Note that David Palmer is now Dee Palmer (only mentioned because notknowing that may lead to some search difficulties). Found the following lyrics on the www. Grey the mist cold the dawn; cruel the sea and stern the shore. Brave the man who sets his course for Albion. Sweet the rose sharp the thorn; meek the soil and proud the corn. Blessed the lamb that would be born within this green and pleasant land. Hi-O-Ran-I-Ro Hi-O-Ran-I-Ro Brown furrow shine beneath the rain washed blue. Bright crystal streams from eagle mountains born. Fortune has smiled on those who wake anew, within this fortress nature built to stay the hand of war. With the wind from the east came the first of those to tread upon this stone, this throne of kings; this realm, this new Jerusalem. Hi-O-Ran-I-Ro Hi-O-Ran-I-Ro Hi-O-Ran-I-Ro Hi-O-Ran-I-Ro |

Subject: RE: Origins: 'Coronach' sung by Jethro Tull From: GUEST Date: 07 Dec 15 - 09:30 AM Guest HiLo, it is on the Twenty Years of Jethro Tull; rare tracks album. I was blessed to find a copy in excellent condition at Ed McKay Books. Guest #, thank you! I will be looking up that definition shortly! Aren't those lyrics lovely? You see what I mean by a hymn of praise? |
