Subject: Tech: Seeking gig amp advice From: GUEST,BigDaddy Date: 11 Dec 15 - 11:02 AM I'm looking for an easily portable amp that can handle vocal and microphone and basically allow me to be heard in a relatively small room or a limited space out of doors (e.g. busking). It would have to work with a standard AC plug or batteries. Two that have been recommended are: Ultrasound AG-15M Acoustic Instrument Combo Amplifier @ $139, and the Peavey Solo Portable PA (CH-D) @ $150. Help, please... |
Subject: RE: Tech: Seeking gig amp advice From: GUEST Date: 11 Dec 15 - 01:51 PM Can't beat a warm, midsized Crate-for-acoustic. Make you sound like a million bucks-- better than you actually sound. At our biggest gig, someone came up after and said, "oh I wish I could sing like you...." and I answered right back, "me toooooo...." Cuz I KNOW how much is me-- and how much it's My Crate and Shure. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Seeking gig amp advice From: Mark Clark Date: 11 Dec 15 - 02:19 PM The Ultrasound, while a nice amp, is a single input acoustic guitar amp. No input for a mic. The Peavy Solo should work well. It has two inputs, one of which is for a mic. Another amp that might work is the PigNose Hog 30. It's battery driven (two lead acid rechargeable batteries) and will run up to ten hours on a charge. Both inputs are ¼" phone plugs so no XLR input. - Mark |

Subject: RE: Tech: Seeking gig amp advice From: GUEST,.gargoyle Date: 11 Dec 15 - 08:58 PM The best (most currency tossed) "buskers" I have witnessed in the EU and USA have always been acousic and vocal. IMHO...what a street musician gains in range of transmission....is quickly lost via the "noise annoyance factor." Subtle and soft wins many a touched heart more than loud and blaring. As pedestrians enter the inner sanctum of the encomphasing earth...we do not want to be MICROASSAULTED by beggars. Sincerely, |
Subject: RE: Tech: Seeking gig amp advice From: Steve Shaw Date: 11 Dec 15 - 09:03 PM Crates are quite big heavy buggers. I settled on a Roland Mobile Cube, run on six AA batteries (I used rechargeables and carried a spare set). It punched way above its modest weight, has a nice clean sound if you want that but also has lots of settings. Very portable and easy to use. Plenty of volume for a small/medium room. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Seeking gig amp advice From: GUEST,bignige Date: 12 Dec 15 - 12:45 PM AER Compact 60, good enough for Tommy Emmanuel. Expensive but brilliant, good and more reasonable Marshall Acoustic Soloist. |
