My daughter's friend will be getting married on 31st August 2016 in the Brentwood area of Essex. She is looking for a folk style band to entertain the guests. She is not looking for a ceilidh band for dancing but rather a band to play music, preferably Irish, for people to sit and listen to.

Can anyone recommend any good contacts?

Arfur Doo and the Toerags are Essex based band. Do lots of Irish stuff. We have had them as guests at Romford Folk Club and have booked them again for 2016.

Word of warning, I'm based on the south coast of Ireland and there are heavy storm warnings here (you know to take it seriously when they give it a name: Eva) so it means we may lose our internet.

But I will get back to you - I can think of some excellent people to suggest, but don't want to splash their names publicly without permission. My partner Michael grew up in that area and it's old familiar stomping ground for me too.

Hi sorry to jump on this but have an almost identical request, we are looking for a contemporary Irish band for a party next June in Essex and having no joy finding anyone online without paying hefty agency fees, would be very grateful for any recommendations!
