Giving birth to a frigging rock out of your kidney was not a lot of fun, but the drugs they gave me were awesome. I did hold out long enough to watch the grand babies open Santa gifts.

Gee, guys, I hope things get better...

We had corn snow here, kinda half hail, half snow. Not quite the same as a real snowstorm, but everything was white and pretty Christmas morning. There was fog Christmas Eve, and it turned into hoarfrost overnight - everything was coated with white and sparkling in the sunshine. The trees were particularly beautiful.

Our string of holidays isn't over yet. I hope you have some good times in the days to come.

-Joe-

Beautiful here in Denver, light snow all the lights, just beautiful. Now if I can recover completely maybe I can enjoy the rest of the time.

as a cockermouth flood refugee i thought i would cheer myself up by going to see my children in edinburgh and then a couple of nights in glasgow. last night i had the traditional festive row with my son by text while disproving the notion that you can't be on your own in a glasgow pub. raining this morning - i suppose the game will be off. ho. ho. ho.

For a beer monster, mine has been largely alcohol free up to yet. Her aged relative invited himself over for Xmas, then demanded to go to Midnight Mass so I had to drive him there and wait in the car whilst he and the half a dozen others did what The Archbishop of Canterbury said "millions" did.

Xmas Day, I drove a round trip of 270 miles for us to spend the day at her brothers. Only right that she got to drink and I couldn't numb the sound of screaming brats.

Ah but... Today! My lads are coming over, taking their Dad to the match, as I used to take them, then back here for us to chew the fat over a few beers, I've got some nice wines ready for the meal and all of a sudden, it's going to be Xmas! The lads are staying the night, and tomorrow my wife and I sod off to a nice Cotswold hotel for a couple of nights.

(Today is also noted for the day her relative sods off. We drop him at the station later, hurrah!)

Hey Dan - congratulations on a new addition to the Stones! Seriously, I hope you feel better now. Is it worth having your gall bladder checked? A friend of my wife's had crippling back pain recently - turned out her gall bladder contained over 70 stones. It's now been taken out.

Whatever - have a good rest of Christmas with the family, and my best to you.

Will

Good thing you're indestructible, Dan. For myself, the - totally out of the blue - gift of an Epiphone acoustic made a good Christmas amazing. Now all I've got to do is "practice, man, practice".
All the very best top you all.

HI, punkfolkrocker. I read somewhere that people in some families revert to childhood roles and conflicts at holidays. Could that be what's happening in your family?

It helps to identify such things - kind of like calling Rumpelstiltskin by his real name.

My own Christmas Eve and Christmas were pleasant. A nice church service on the 24th and dinner and music-making on the 25th.
-----------
Olddude, you have my sympathy. I have heard that a kidney stone is one of the worst pains there is. I'm glad you are okay now.

My youngest niece had a car wreck Christmas eve. A young kid made a left turn in front of her when he shouldn't have. Luckily no one was hurt but the air bags deployed. What surprised them was that NO ONE stopped to help or check on them. Just drove around them while they were stopped in the middle of the intersection. They had three kids under the age of 6 in the car and no one stopped. Bah Humbug.

This holiday is in stages. I always cook a meal for my ex, a dish that his Puerto Rican mother taught me how to make (she died a few years ago). I taught our daughter how to make it (she helped over the last few years) and this year, on xmas day, I taught my son how to make it. So far, the filling of the meat pie is ready - next, on Sunday, my son, daughter, and ex will all get together here (the daughter was in Japan until late Thursday, and has been at her home adjusting back to the time zone) and assemble the meat pies for him to take home and put in his freezer. Meanwhile, since we missed it together last month, a typical American thanksgiving dinner will be underway (brined/roasted turkey, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, etc.) and we'll open gifts at some point between the various cooking stages.

You do what you can when you can when the kids are grown and on their own.

I been taking januvia for sugar. I find out it causes kidney stones. When I go home they need to come up with a different plan. Those things suck. The pain is interesting for sure. I feel great now but Xmas wasn't so merry Lol

Very quiet here on Dartmoor ; sadly, was too ill to play carols on Christmas Eve.Am now on Penicillin , nasal sprays, Ramipril (for BP ) and some other tablets whose name I shall not disclose here !! Actually, I haven't got round to trying them yet ! But yes, Christmas has been VERY quiet, if rather wet and windy (but warm with our 2 wood-burning stoves ). God bless you all .

WesleyS, so glad no one was injured, and bah humbug indeed on the passersby.

Thank you for letting me use the word passersby.

Today is weird, first time in decades (like, more than 3) that we aren't having the extended family-and-friends over for Boxing Day. No rokott krumpli. Not seeing uncles or aunts or cousins or their kids. Nice, mind you, but weird. My nuclear family and I are already back home... each in a separate room!

Our first Christmas with our Granddaughter - best gift of all- as well as playing for Mass on Christmas morning and again on Boxing day. Church was packed out on both occasions.
Otherwise a quiet time with lots of dozing. Our thoughts are with those affected by the flooding in Northern England. Hoping Liverpool stays dry but that's nearly all down hill to the Mersey

I fell on the sidewalk walking home from the post office on Christmas eve and broke my humerus (not sure of the spelling). After the er visit I'm in a sling and can't move the arm much for 4-6 weeks. Some early January gigs will be interesting. We also had a 21 hour power outage. Christmas day went a lot better. We didn't loose any food in the fridge from the outage. Susan fixed a lovely turkey dinner. So I'm tryimg to stay as positive as I can.

Hi Dan
Hope you have finished with them stones.

Over here we are in NW England but luckily for us we are just below the terrible flooding that is affecting North Lancashire and Cumbria and now some parts of Yorkshire.

We enjoyed a great Christmas with 4 generations of the family together. We are having a party here at our home for most of them.

All the best for a peaceful and prosperous NEW Year.

Mike

I have a friend who is stuck in Lubbock, Texas in the midst of blizzard-like conditions with an interstate highway closed and vehicles slid off into ditches. On top of that, there have been numerous tornadoes about and at least 11 people have died in them. Luckily, my friend is in a hotel- and the hotel has food. Most restaurants are closed and people are advised to stay home and off the roads.

Sheesh. I am in Alaska, for pete's sake, and we have *nothing* like that.

After a green Christmas with conditions like October, it's snowing to beat the band here in Ottawa. Fortunately, the supermarket was open yesterday so we were able to restock the fridge, 'cause hauling groceries in current conditions would be a major downer. Plus, I have a cold that is now in the shank of its tenure, with a sore nose and a bellowing cough.

All in all, a good day to crawl into a hole and pull it in after me.

But it's garbage day, so I have to do that first. Bleah.

The tornadoes missed us (but I imagine one of the more bizarre aspects of homes that were hit this time of year is a lot of glittery and sparkly stuff spread around in the debris). The kids came and went. The house is still tidy - all things considered, this is a first. Usually it takes a while to get the ornaments put up and the various gifts stowed away. Our holiday was much smaller, but the good part is that for the first time in three years everyone (in this immediate family) was home. We cooked up a storm, and that's where the brunt of the celebration lay, in the food we prepared together.
