Subject: RE: is there any folk/trad in Winster? From: Dave Sutherland Date: 07 Jan 16 - 07:41 AM The Old Bowling Green pub in Winster (only been once but appeared to be a cracking hostelry) appears to be the home of Winster Morris. |
Subject: RE: is there any folk/trad in Winster? From: FreddyHeadey Date: 07 Jan 16 - 07:00 AM ? the weekend dates are 11 12 13 ? Not too far away on the Monday... 'March 14 A Brief History Of Music' "...takes in 600 years of musical history in 90 minutes! Beginning in the Middle Ages and ending up in the 20th century (and incorporating everything in between!) this fun and fast-moving show is a whistle-stop tour of Western musical history. Featuring long forgotten songs and tunes (not to mention jokes!) Blast from the Past paint a vibrant and vivid picture of our musical DNA, mixing the familiar and the obscure, the raucous and the reflective and the courtly and the commonplace. " Clickable links and there might be other things too : https://mapoffolkystuffinstaffordshire.wordpress.com/the-map/ There is a link there to a Bakewell listing which might be worth checking out |
Subject: RE: is there any folk/trad in Winster? From: Jack Campin Date: 07 Jan 16 - 04:35 AM Thanks! but I'll still be up here in Scotland on Saturday night (will be in Buxton Sunday and Monday, I think there are things happening there). I'll try to see Winster while I'm in the area, anyway. |
Subject: RE: is there any folk/trad in Winster? From: GUEST,John Geddes (Winster Website) Date: 07 Jan 16 - 01:27 AM Winster doesn't have any regular musical sessions, but we do have something on Sat 12th March - an evening performance in our village hall (Burton Institute). I'm not sure who is booked, but judging by who is organising it, I would expect it to be folk/trad. Keep an eye on the Events listings at winster.org if this is of potential interest |
Subject: is there any folk/trad in Winster? From: Jack Campin Date: 06 Jan 16 - 06:05 PM I'm going to the KlezNorth klezmer gathering in Youlgrave, Derbyshire, in March: http://kleznorth.org.uk/ and spending a few days in the area before. Youlgrave (or Youlgreave, both spellings are used) is a few miles from Winster, where the eponymous Gallop comes from. Youlgrave has a folk club (which I won't be able to get to) but I can find no reference on the web to any musical activities in Winster (since 1911, anyway). Is there anything? |
