Subject: Conamara - Patrick Connolly From: AmyLove Date: 06 Jan 16 - 08:30 PM I've heard Conamara by Patrick Connolly on Raidió na Gaeltachta a number of times and today decided to track it down. You can listen to it here. Lyrics: 1. Ó Montreal go dtí Seattle, ó New Orleans go San Antone: Tá dhaoine óga ann ag taisteal ag saothrú saoil dóibh féin níos mó. Cúrfa Ú Conamara, tá tú imithe uaim rófhada ó mo chuimhne ó mo chroí. Ú Conamara, chaith tú seal le bean a leanna i do luí. 2. Ó níor theastaigh uathu imeacht óna gcairde 's óna gclann. Ach céard eile a bhí le déanamh nuair nach bhfuil aon obair ann. Cúrfa 3. Ó Indreabhan go hIorras aithneach, na hOileáin, Camus, Ros A Mhíl-inár gcroí. Bíonn daoine óga ann ag taisteal. Ní fhillfidh mórán arís choíche. Cúrfa |

Subject: RE: Conamara - Patrick Connolly From: Felipa Date: 07 Jan 16 - 07:02 AM yes, as far as I'm aware Seán Ó hÉanaigh composed the song "Conamara" (Connemara, western Ireland) Gist of the song: the young people are leaving, going to Montreal, Seattle, etc from Indreabhan, the islands, Camus and Ros a' Mhil they didnt want to leave their friends and family, but what choice was there when there's no work at home? |

Subject: RE: Conamara - Patrick Connolly From: Felipa Date: 22 Mar 17 - 06:39 PM which singer, Jeff; Patrick Connolly or Seán O hEanaigh? And what do you want to know about Patrick or Seán? Seán is a radio presenter. I've met him a few times. He was born in the US, in the Boston area, and came to Ireland with his family; if my memory is correct he told me he was 12 years old when the family returned to Ireland. I wonder if Patrick Connolly Irish actor based in London and Pat Connolly, sean-nós singer and uncle of Cathy Ryan and/or Patrick Connolly who recorded "Conamara" are the same person. Cathy Ryan's uncle gets a brief mention in this very interesting article http://www.irishtimes.com/culture/how-a-london-imam-became-a-sean-n%C3%B3s-singer-1.2140767 |
