I heard that on the news too. What a cruel sick joke for a son to play on his 62 year old mother and tell her that she was a winner in the billion dollar Powerball lottery! How low can a person go - especially a son making his mother think she had won.
Now they are saying on the news that the actual winner who won from the 7/11 store in Chino Hills, CA has not come forward and neither have the other two winners in two other states.
They say on the news that in California that the winner CANNOT remain anonymous and they will reveal your name once they know you are a winner. If I won, I would be totally scared once my name was made public.

No one would leave you alone anymore. A billion dollars - too much money for me - I would be happy with just 1 million and even then you wouldn't be left alone. People would come out of the woodwork.
You would really have to be careful. Ha! The most I ever won on lottery ticket was $2.00.

One of the winners was someone who purchased a ticket at a 7//1l store in Chino Hills, California. Now it has become an unbelievable story. Supposedly a 62 year old woman who is a nurse at a care facility in Pomona, Calif. had a son at home who called her at her job last night and told her to go out to her car (where she had her Powerball ticket) to check her numbers. Then he (the son) sent her a (fake image) of the numbers and told her that SHE WAS THE BILLION DOLLLAR WINNER. But the Lotto Officials are saying "her numbers" were not the winning numbers and so they are still investigating it.
They said on the news it was HOAX - by her son.
She has seven kids. They interviewed people who work with her - she was not at work today and they said she has been a nurse a long time and a very good person.
How could a son do that to his own mother? Nothing has been confirmed but news reporter said it "appears to be a hoax."
FYIF - Pomona is about 10 miles away approx. from Chino Hills.
She works in Pomona but don't know where she lives.

I ate at a Chinese restaurant yesterday and in the fortune cookie was the good luck message with 6 numbers. I then went to the store near the restaurant and selected the numbers for the Powerball on the fortune cookie message.
My fortune cookie message: "You have strong potential for financial success."
Hope it comes true!

I was just watching the news on local TV news in Los Angeles.
They had a guest on who is a financial advisor.
He was saying that most people (about 70%) blow their big lotto winnings in 7 years. He said if you do win a huge amount in the Lotto you will need to contact a tax attorney and a trusted financial planner/advisor. I have never used either before. Never needed a tax atty. for my little earnings. :-(
He said a lot of people make the mistake of just giving huge amounts to friends and relatives (which in turn brings more relatives and friends out of the woodwork) and it just goes on and on.
He also said it is better to take lump sum (even though a lot less then if you took it in monthly payments for 30 years)

Well, if one of the few tickets I bought are winning tickets I will be very happy. Just two hours to go for the drawing at 8 PM tonight.

You would be better off, significantly, by taking the annuitized award instead of the discounted lump sum payment, unless you have some reliable investment plan to make the money productive.

There are 310,000,000 people (approximately) in the US. That makes the odds of me winning 292,200,000/310,000,000, or pretty much even! So I bought two tickets to be sure of winning!*

The odds of winning this Powerball is 1 in 292.2 million.
Odds used to be 1 in 175.2 million until officials changed the rules in July 2015 which decreased the odds but result is a bigger jackpot.

Officials are allowed legally to reveal winner's names. (just your names but not address) In other words you cannot remain anonymous once you come forward to claim you are a winner to Lotto Officials.

I read about some guy who said if he won, right after winning he would build this big fence around his home and put in a big moat with alligators in it for all the "relatives" that would all show up.
I was cracking up after reading that. :-)

What the hey, I bought a ticket. I'll take the lump sum and put it into tax free bonds, keep my current money manager, get an auditor to keep an independent eye on it and, after paying all my debt, live on an allowance from the management account. Of course, share it with my family.

To put some perspective on that amount of money (USD applies):

If you are 50 years old and live to be 90 you have 40 years, or 350,400 hours left, or 2,104,000 minutes (according to my figures, but check them because I was an English major and not math).

USD 1,300,000,000 in a prize means that to use is up you'd have to spend about $3,710.05 per hour, or $61.79 per minute or about a dollar per second. Of course, you'd have lots of help offering to help you spend it.

1 billion is about the prize after taxes but a lump sum divides it in half and possibly divided by the number of winners.
In my hands gifts would go to the ACLU and possible Resort packages Hunting and fishing trips and cruises for conservative court justices.
Accidents do happen.

After the family is secure certain science grants and NIH grants would be considered.

But for today most people I know are all possible billionaires.

Set up a trust for things I believe in, like music and family and science and libraries. Maybe give half of my winnings to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Get the house fixed up more -- simple things, like new flooring, painting, a twenty foot high electric fence, land mines, an alligator-filled moat (to keep my new "relatives" away).

No Lamborghini, no private jet, no mansion over in Jackson Hole so I can hobnob with Dick Cheney, no little place in Sun Valley next to Tom Cruise. My current status is pretty nice. I'd only move if I had to.

Oh! I probably should buy tickets! (And I have to remember to pick up my bugle at the music store.)

IT'S UNBELIEVABLE - THE LARGEST JACKPOT IN LOTTERY HISTORY in the world!

I've bought my tickets for tomorrow's (Wednesday) nights drawing for the largest jackpot ever in the world!

Here in California, there are some stores that have had a history of a lot of big Lotto winners, so of course people are gravitating to those particular stores (many are liquor stores) and long, long lines just to buy the Powerball tickets ($2.00 a ticket.) I don't live near the stores with past big winners so just bought them near home - and no lines.   

Since they don't have Powerball in Nevada, a lot of people living there are driving over the border into California to buy tickets and wait 2 hours to buy a ticket once they get to the store. People in Canada also driving over the border to buy tickets in USA.

WHAT TO DO WITH A BILLION DOLLARS?????/WOW!

Well...I would move to Carmel, California and buy a nice little home there and after that I don't know.
I might fly first class to London with accommodations that have a bed for long flights from L.A. to London. No more coach seats for me.
I have always only flown coach on airlines - and would love the luxury of flying first class. Would visit some friends in London and then fly to Switzerland to see a friend who lives there, one in Dublin too.
I would go to a lot of folk clubs and hope Donovan was playing somewhere to buy the best seats in the concert hall.

I've never even flown in business class before - just cramped in with a lot of people in coach section. Long waits for the restroom in coach too.

Would probably give to certain charities in particular that would help cats and dogs. (My passion)

Only family is one brother - so I would help him too.

Ah, how wonderful to dream. I only have bought three tickets so far.

Of course, Uncle Sam would get a huge chunk.

Wednesday night is the drawing. Can't wait to see if I win and then go into hiding. :-)))
