Subject: RE: Tech: Do we report spam here? From: Jack Campin Date: 27 Jan 16 - 12:07 PM Send a PM to anyone you know to be a mod. Joe is the only one I know of, since kat died. It would be much more convenient if there was a "report this post" button, but Max obviously knows such things are possible and doesn't want to provide it. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we report spam here? From: MartinRyan Date: 27 Jan 16 - 12:39 PM Seems to have been dealt with, anyway. Response times to spam vary - not surprisingly. Regards |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we report spam here? From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Jan 16 - 01:20 PM It's probably best not to clutter the Forum with requests for Spam deletion. I'm the contact person for questions and reports and such, so you can contact me by personal message, or by emailing me at joe@mudcat.org If you know other moderators, you can contact them, too. But it's probably best not to report Spam until it's been visible for at least four hours. We check Guest messages in the forum several times a day, and routinely delete Spam. Most times when people report Spam to me, it has already been deleted by the time I get to it. Oh, and there are people who respond to Spam messages in the Forum, and then they get huffy when the Spam was deleted and their response message left remaining, making them look a bit foolish. Then they blame the moderators for being insensitive or something. So, let it be known: do not respond in the forum to Spam - or, for that matter, to troll messages. Usually, moderators review messages in a list of new messages, not in the context of a thread. So, it's quite likely they may delete a Spam or troll message without seeing your response, thus making you look foolish. So, in brief, don't worry about Spam. We usually delete it routinely. And if we miss a Spam message or two, it's not the end of the world. Thanks. -Joe Offer, Mudcat Music Editor- |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we report spam here? From: FreddyHeadey Date: 27 Jan 16 - 03:53 PM Thanks and sorry. I was just about to suggest an addition to the 'Help' page when I realised I should have started with a search of FAQ where I would have found "........... be patient." ! thread.cfm?threadid=19340#3007120 |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we report spam here? From: RTim Date: 27 Jan 16 - 07:15 PM Why is a story about a Canal Cruise with Music = Spam?? No different than telling like minded and interested people about a concert or CD, etc.. Tim Radford |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we report spam here? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 27 Jan 16 - 07:34 PM The spam is gone so now it is just a regular thread again. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Do we report spam here? From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 28 Jan 16 - 05:13 PM Actually, it's nice to see interesting old threads get resurrected which would have remained buried if the spammer hadn't woken them up. It often means the conversation on the original topic then just carries on, and the passage of time can give them extra dimensions. Spam is a fact of online life. Easier not to waste time or mental resources even reacting to it. |
