Anyone who has visited Maidenhead F C in the last forty years will have been entertained by the flying fingers of fiddler John Somerville
who died this week . He will be sadly missed .

So sorry, Leadfingers. I'd have liked to hear him play.

I'm sorry to hear this. That's another good fiddler gone. I've added his name to the "In Memoriam" thread.

Peter

And can we please spell his name correctly: Sommerville (1926-2016, age 89).

Yes, a fiddle playing stalwart of the folk club and folk dance band scenes around Maidenhead for more years than most of us can remember.

I raised a glass of scotch to him last night (he liked a dram or three).
Condolences to May and the family.

I should have added that he also wrote some pretty good tunes over the years. He was dead chuffed when Aly Bain bought one of his tune books, and also when English Rebellion put 'The Merry Month' on their CD.
