Dear Friends of John Barden
Jan has asked me to post the news to you all that John passed away unexpectedly yesterday (Sunday 07.02.2016) at home.

Throughout his illness John remained determined to fill
his time living life to the full with travel and music, and making special times with friends and family.

He so wanted to get back out once more to see you all again but he is now at peace and pain free.

Our love and condolences now go to Jan, Teni and Rachel and to his many friends and family spread across this Earth.
Brian and I are proud to have been his Bardettes but even more grateful to have had him as the truest of friends. We will
miss you and raise a Parting Glass to you John. RIP dear friend x

Such a shame to hear this. I sat in quite a few sessions with John at festivals, in fact if I spotted a session that he was sitting in I knew that it was quite likely to be worth joining.

Anchor man of many sessions at The Bedford Hotel and The Swan in Sidmouth, which is how I knew him, as well as when he came up to Scotland for Loanhead Festival a few years back. I knew he had been fighting the big C, but hadn't expected this quite so soon. RIP John, and love to Jan and family. We'll keep your name going at Sidmouth this year.

There was something really special about John.

He always made sure that quiet people got a chance to be heard in the bar sessions in the Bedford and created a bit of order out of chaos.

Greetings from the Irish John Barden, living in Germany.

So sorry to hear about this. People here in Germany sometimes laughed about us both having the same name and both being musicians.

He contacted me once and joked about this and even suggested that we get together one day for a few songs.

We enjoyed a concert with Dave Blosse on Tuesday at The Good Intent. It was packed and the whole pub singing 'down by John Barden's Field, in harmony, made one want to blub.

The funeral arrangements to celebrate the life of John are as follows:-
Tuesday 1st March 2016 at 1.15 Vinters Park Crematorium, Bearsted Rd, Weavering , Maidstone, ME145LG. Casual dress is welcomed by the family as are any donations made in John's memory to Cancer Research in preference to flowers. Thank you.

I never met John, but we had Bo Foakes as a mutual friend. He was staying with Bo in Cornwall when a CD of mine arrived in the post, and he immediately adopted one of the songs, which I took, and still do, as a great compliment. RIP.

John was always a very welcome visitor to the Gosport & Fareham Easter Festival and the Wickham Festival, both of which I've organised. He was a lovely man, always smiling. Festival sessions will never be as good again. Deepest sympathies to his family.
