I don't know the song but there is a poem I recall from my New England days:

The golf links lie so near the mill
That almost every day
The little children can look out
And see the men at play.

Perhaps someone set it to music.

Sorry to be picky, Cool Beans, but the third line goes:

'The LABOURING children can look out'

As far as I know there is only the one verse, and no tune - an opportunity for somebody there, perhaps?

Wassail!

The poem is "The Golf Links" by Sarah Norcliffe Cleghorn,1876-1959. Wikipedia states--

"Cleghorn's poetry is largely didactic in nature, serving to illustrate Christian Socialist values and progressive political and social principles. Her most widely known poem "The Golf Links" is an ironic and satirical look at child labor."

"The Golf Links"

There are references to these lines coming from a longer work "Through the Needle's Eye"

There is a discussion here but nobody seems to have tracked it down.

The Needle piece is not listed here which seems to be one of the main Listings of her works
