Will be in Birmingham overnight on April 17th. Wondered if there were any folky happenings in or near Brum that particular night?

'or near' ? Is that an American 2 hour car journey or an English 10 minute bus journey ;-)   ?
btw...Thurs 14th or Sun 17th?

idk of any in the ten minute zone but there are more local folky links to click on this map
https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=z8epsek9V9xs.knQ-D5m0dGdE&z=11&ll=52.47049,-1.89246 NB open it in the browser, not googlemaps.
> select the 'links' layer and click 'W Midlands links'

If you find any more I hope you can mention them here on mudcat.

Bah, stupid of me - I got the date right in the title, 14th, and then switched my brain off.

Thursday 14th April!

Bellowhead are on at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham that night but, sadly, it's sold out - might be worth checking for returns through the THSH site or Ticketmaster.

There are a few folk clubs doing singers' nights if you're prepared to travel out of town a bit (they're all about half-an-hour away from the city centre):

Brewood Acoustic Music Club (brewoodacousticmusic.co.uk)

ChequeMates in Hopwas, near Tamworth (www.clarettheband.t15.org - website seems to be down at the moment)

Common Folk an Pelsall, near Walsall (https://sites.google.com/site/commonfolkpelsall/home)

Hope you find something to your taste.

If you're prepared to travel as far as Brewood there is also
Catshill Social Club - Bromsgrove Folk Club
Lighthouse Folk Club - Rowley Regis

You'll find links if you go to that map I mentioned and select the 'thursday' layer.
You've not said yet how far you might travel?
