Subject: Info request - FR cartoonist Natasha From: MGM·Lion Date: 10 Apr 16 - 03:55 AM From 1973 to 1976, I used to write the monthly 'Tailpiece' column for Fred Woods's "Folk Review" magazine. My column's picture byline was an unflattering but, it must be admitted, not inaccurate full-length drawing, which cleverly captured, in somewhat exaggerated caricature, my features and stance. I have the original, signed simply "Natasha"; whom I met, introduced by Fred at a 1970s Cambridge Folk Festival, for only the couple of minutes it took for her to walk round and study me. We never met again; she did the drawing entirely from memory. I have some recollection of Fred having said that she was a cartoonist for The Scotsman newspaper. I have failed to find any info about her online; but wonder if any Catter, who might happen to be a Scotsman-reader or a student of the cartoon genre, could tell me her full name, or might know anything else about her. ≈Michael Grosvenor Myer≈ |

Subject: RE: Info request - FR cartoonist Natasha From: Jack Campin Date: 10 Apr 16 - 06:25 AM The name rings a bell; at some point I must have seen her cartoons regularly. Style rather like that used for caricaturing celebs by Punch, the Guardian and the Telegraph. |
Subject: RE: Info request - FR cartoonist Natasha From: MGM·Lion Date: 12 Apr 16 - 12:48 AM Thank you, Jack. Yes, the sort of caricature used for politicians & celebs. Mainly dependent on facial features -- head exaggeratedly large in proportion to the body; tho, as I said above, my characteristic, somewhat slouching, stance is faithfully captured also: pic is in profile from left. My Folk Review column, BTW in case may jog any memories, was entitled "Taking the Mike". Any further bells rung? ≈M≈ |
