I have a Nook ereader, bought because it wasn't Amazon. Now Barnes and Noble are pulling out from the UK.
I had thought, no problem, I can still borrow ebooks from the library, buy from Waterstones, or stick pdfs on it from other sources. I've put all my folk song repertoire which I used to have on my Palm Pilot on it.
But earlier this week, someone on the radio said that from mid-May, the thing will turn into a lump of flint, and be totally useless.
Is this true?
And, if so, why are they allowed to do this?

I gather there's going to be some sort of deal whereby Nook software gets taken over by Sainsbury's. Worth a check, perhaps.

My guess is that you have no cause to worry. The device will continue to work as an E reader even if B&N withdraw from the UK. You will still have Wi-Fi although you might have to get a new service provider. Also, if it has a USB or mini USB socket you can access it through your PC. After a quick browse through Ebay I might get one myself.

I've done the transfer with Sainsburys, though not tried it out yet. I use Adobe Digital Editions to communicate with it via the mini USB socket. (Someone was complaining about this necessity on a website - very first world problem.) Also through the filing system - it just works like an external hard drive.

Why the radio reporter was going on about it dying, I don't know. I just won't be able to download directly from B&N. The wifi isn't connecting anywhere. But it certainly isn't dead. Yet.

Forgot to say thanks. I had got in panic mode!

And it looks as though things I had archived are still available.
