Subject: Nice stuff near Kent this Summer? From: Richard Bridge Date: 17 Apr 16 - 04:07 PM I NEED more folking this summer. What should I add to the following list - stuff not too monstrous a tow or drive from Medway or Croydon, preferably. Sat 23 April – Band practice. Fri 29 April to Mon 2 May Sweeps. Fri 26 May to Sun 28 May - Bobbing (private party). Thursday 2 Jun to Monday 6 June. Piggy. Fri 8 July to Monday 11 July - Stonedhenge (private party). Fri 15 to Sun 17 July - Dead Horse Ale Whitstable. August - half thinking about Dartmoor or Broadstairs. Sidmouth not viable as accommodation needs to be planned a year in advance. Fri 2 to Sun 4 Sept - Chaversham. Fri 16 to Sun 18 Sept - Deal. Fri 23 to Sun 25 Sept - Simon and Dal's 110th birthday (added together) at the Good Intent. Thurs 29 Sept to Mon 3 Oct - Tenterden. |
Subject: RE: Nice stuff near Kent this Summer? From: Noreen Date: 17 Apr 16 - 09:58 PM You can pitch your caravan at one of the many campsites surrounding Sidmouth, Richard, and use the excellent bus service to get into town. |

Subject: RE: Nice stuff near Kent this Summer? From: Jack Campin Date: 18 Apr 16 - 06:47 AM Deal is cancelled (forever). It was the only one of those I could have got to (unless "Piggy" is somewhere accessible, I've never heard of it). |
Subject: RE: Nice stuff near Kent this Summer? From: Richard Bridge Date: 18 Apr 16 - 09:29 PM Piggy is the Pigs Ear Festival at the Kentish Horse near Edenbridge. I thought everybody called it that. The Official Deal is no more but there is a notable Morris musician whose birthday usually falls that weekend and there is usually a "day of dance" involving some morris sides. And some drinking and singing in a pub not far from town. I am told these will repeat this year. Last year certainly arrangements were made for John Barden to host a sing in the garden of the Bohemian (which is only slightly spoiled by that monstrosity of a block of flats that now overshadows it). He can't be there now, but others of us could be. In the meantime - other nice stuff near Kent please? White Horse is a possible, thank you, although it is a bit of a trek from Kent. |
