Some fifty years ago, I heard a version, or perhaps a "perversion" of the American song "Casey Jones." In some verses, it got a little raunchy, by fifty years ago standards. I can only remember one verse:

"Casey said just before he died,
There's two more things I'd like to ride,
The fireman said, what could be,
A bowlegged woman and a Ferris wheel."

I know this is wrong, and I suspect I've got it mixed up with a version of the song of Jay Gould.

I'd appreciate it if anyone can steer me straight. Thanks ... bob(deckman)nelson

You got me wondering, Bob. I guess there ARE parallels between "Jay Gould's Daughter" and "Casey Jones" - and Southbound Passenger Train

I'd say your verse must be from "Jay Gould's Daughter" - although I admit I've never heard the verse before. You'll find your verse in Ed Cray's Erotic Muse, or in this post (click). So, is the song "Casey" or "Gould"? I dunno.

P.S. Take a look at this quote (click)

Stewie, Thanks for the recommendations. I've got the Dixieland Jug Blowers CD and the incredible "Ruckus Juice & Chittlins" CDs. I will definitely check out Clifford Hayes Louisville Stompers.

Now, how about a dirty version of Casey Jones. _The Erotic Muse_ by Ed Cray has two versions, here's one:

CASEY JONES

Casey Jones was a son-of-a-bitch.
His balls were covered with the whorehouse itch.
He went to the door with his pecker in his hand,
Says to the lady, "I'm a railroad man."

Casey Jones said before he died
There were five more things he'd like to ride:
Bicycle, tricycle, automobile,
Bow-legged woman and a ferris wheel.

Casey said before he died
There were two more drinks he'd like to try.
"Well, tell me, Casey, what can they be?"
"A cup of coffee and a cup of tea."

They were rolling down the line 'bout half past two.
Casey pissed in the fire and the boiler blew.
The fireman drowned in a yellow stream
And for miles around you could see yellow steam.

Western photographer and novelist Dane Coolidge reported in 1912 that he'd heard endless verses of a bawdy parody of "Casey Jones" among Arizona cowboys early that year. In fact, it was almost "the only tune they hummed." Each verse, Coolidge wrote, was "fouler than the last."

Botkin's "Treasury of American Folklore" observes that bawdy versions of the song were well known to American soldiers in France in 1918.

You'll enjoy the Botkin books, garg. I've got a bunch of 'em. Benjamin A. Botkin (1901-1975) was head of the Archive of American Folk Song of the Library of Congress from 1942-45, a job also once held by John and Alan Lomax.

What's the Random House book (DAS) that you refer to?

The song was also well known among the Boy Scouts in West Central Illinois in the 1956-60 era.

Casey Jones was a son of a bitch
Tied his train to a whorehouse hitch
Lined forty women up against a wall
Swore to God he’d fuck ‘em all
Got to forty eight and his balls turned blue
Took a shot of whiskey and killed the other two..

I heard it, like:

Casey Jones was a son of a bitch
Drove his engine train into a whorehouse hitch
Jumped out the window with his Dick in his hand
Said, "Pardon me ladies, I'm a railroad man
Lined 100 women up against a wall
Bet them each 1 dollar he could fuck ‘em all
Fucked 98 til his balls turned blue
Backed off, jacked off, then fucked the other two..

(just the way I heard it)

I remember two verses of alternate Casey Jones lyrics sung by my dad who was a devoted Christian:

Casey went to a farmer's back door
He said I am so hungry I can see the golden shore
The farmer took him by the hand and said, boy you must be fed
And the news was so sudden that it killed old Casey dead

Casey died and went to heaven from here
He told St. Peter I'm a good engineer
St. Peter said to Casey, he said Boy you are so bold
I'll send you down below where you can shovel coal.

I vaguely remember part of another verse in which the action described included a bulldog getting Casey by the seat of the pants with the follow-on being, And when it was all over you could see Old Casey's ass. Of course, my saintly father ended that verse with the phrase, "you could see the glory land."

I've never seen these verses cited in any search I've conducted. Hhhmmm...could it be my dad made the whole thing up? ;o)
