Hello folks. I'm looking for a song associated with the Quarrier orphanages in Scotland. Apparently it was the custom for the children to sing this when a group of children was being departing for Canada (1869-1939).

These are the lyrics I know:

Don't forget the orphan homes of Scotland,
Don't forget the dear friends here;
Don't forget that Jesus Christ your Saviour
Goes with thee to Canada.
And remember we're still a-praying
That your life will be good and true,
And that you may find a blessing
In the land you're going to.

(It's possible that there are other verses, which would be great to know too, but what I'm here to look for is the melody.)

Source: The Golden Bridge

Thanks, Marion

Is it possible that it was the established tune to a hymn that everybody already knew?

Marion I don't know of the song but if you contact the archivist at Quarriers Head Office, Quarriers Village, Bridge of Weir, PA11 3SX / Tel: 01505 612224/616000   they may be able to shed light on this

Thanks for your responses.

Keberoxu, I think that's very possible; if I never do find the melody, I'll pick a hymn that matches.

Good idea, Megan, I'll probably end up doing that.
