I can't find a recording either. Here are the words:

We flew up to Edinburgh last year. It was a magical experience in a little Dornier plane (15-seater, dinky black propellers) Only one flight attendant, and although the flight was just an hour long, she brought us all a nice cup of tea and...a Tunnock's caramel wafer! She even came round with extra ones for the greedy folk like me.

Can some kind elf please correct the spelling of McNaughtan, with an "a" instead of an "o".

Not helped by Wikipedia and his CD distributor also getting it wrong.

I used to remember that he and the Edinburgh second-hand bookshop used to spell their names differently. But I could never remember which was which.

There are also M'Naghten the English murderer (who they named the McNaughton Rules after), Half-Hung MacNaghten the Irish murderer, and Nechtan the king of the Picts (not to be confused with two other Nechtans who were also kings of the Picts, one of them possibly mythological but not to be confused with the mythical Irish god Nechtan or with the two probably different St Nectans in Devon and Cornwall, at least one of whom might have existed). And you ought to spell Nechtan's clan as mac Neachdainn anyway.

You can see why the singer decided to call his shop Adam Books when he was in the book trade.

I once decorated the back of a door using a hundred or so carefully unfolded foil wrappers from Tunnock's Teacakes - fixed with a water based size, the effect was rather quite stunning.

Graphically, they're the very embodiment of Hoary Tradition and it pleases me no end to see them employing same on the teacake page of their website - but, hold on, what's this? Dark chocolate teacakes? Methinks a jaunt down the ASDAs in in order...

At least around here, the Co-Op usually has the dark chocolate teacakes in stock. By far my favourite Tunnock's product.

The tune is one many Scots at least will know: the pipe march "Barren Rocks of Aden".
So the first 4 lines of each verse go to the first half of the tune.
The next 4 lines to the second half of the tune.
And the final 4 lines of each verse are that double tempo thing, much beloved of some pipers (and Gilbert and Sullivan, which I happen to know that Adam likes!)
I got the words from a friend at our local session, and have sung it on a number of occasions: if you're lucky, I might have a supply of TCWs with me!

I remember old Archie Tunnock sellin' broken biscuits and misshapen cakes at the Barras in the fifties;
Ye could get a big bag o' chocolate wafers for a shillin'.
I remember him as a friendly approachable old man, quite tubby and genial.....the stereotypical baker!
If I get offered a cup of tea and biscuits from a customer, I always examine the plate, look disappointed and say......"Whit! nae Tunnocks?"    Usually raises a laugh....or a skelp on the ear!

Disagree with Observer. Had they continued as always nobody would have batted an eye on Scotland or elsewhere. Instead they seem to have upset 50% of their home market. Odd decision if you ask me.

Can't remember it all - nor who composed it?

Surely one of the reasons for folk music is to protest? anti nuclear songs, political songs, songs about injustice - and not just in modern times?

Caramel Wafers were never my thing, but I have some dark chocolate teacakes at home and the only motif on the packet with a national connotation is a Scottish rampant lion holding a red flag. I don't have a problem with that.

I thought Mr Tunnock had changed the teacakes motif round about the time of the Scottish referendum - which is what the fuss was about!

Been looking for composer / all the lyrics of The Boycott Song - not found info yet but there's some youtubes of Gordeanna / Eurydice, also Ronnie Alexander singing it.

(I was sure I remembered Gordeanna singng 'orange pie' way back when, but with Eurydice she sings 'lemon pie' )

I doubt if that many of the 44.3% who voted for Independence in 2014, let alone the majority of voters, really gave much thought or a jot about Tunnock's teacakes and wafers.

Nor will they worry about boycotting supermarkets etc. Only the hard core activists are that interested.

Moreover, I also believe that we should take what is printed in "The National" with a pinch of salt along with the opinions and claims of it's contributors.
In the unlikely event that the incident actually occurred as reported in the newspaper, this appears to have been the response of only one employee who is no longer even employed by the company who actually confirmed that this was not their official stance....which suggests that the views were that of a rogue employee.

However, getting back to the original subject.Tunnocks make lovely biscuits. Adam McNaughtan writes terrific songs and is a gentleman, to boot.
