I came a cross "The Santer Sessions" while looking for something else on YouTube: seems it was a series on BBC TV in Ulster a while back: then there was a (one-off?) Santer Session Festival in Sept 2013, with people like Fred Morrison and Emily Smith taking part, celebrating the Ulster Scots and "cross the pond" links to N America. Seems to have been N Ireland's answer to Transatlantic Sessions.
But nowhere can I find WHY they chose that name...which just happens to be my real surname (by marriage). As far as we know, we have no family members in N Ireland, my husband being from Devon, and going further back, his grandfather came from Kent.
So who or what is Santer in the this context? Burning to know! Please enlighten me!
And here's a wee clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVaR4UfDEfg

It sounds like it might possibly be a corruption of Sangster which is a common term over in Fife where my sister lives.

Hmmm.. Ulster-Sots variant of "saunter", apparently:

Thanks Martin. I did eventually post on the email enquiry form on the programme website, and producer kindly phoned me and gave me a definition which is close to that given on your link. So, nothing to do with a family name, though I can think of a few family members who do ramble on about all and nothing!
