Subject: Lyr Req: Representations of the Orient
From: GUEST,Kate

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for representations of the Orient, Africa, Middle East, India, the colonies etc in British and Irish folk music up until the early 20th century. I'm thinking of things like Banks of the Nile (the thread about it was very helpful). I noticed there is also one called Casabianca seemingly about the same battle. Does anyone have any other ideas? I'd be interested in song lyrics but also background reading, if anyone knows of anything... (I've searched DT & the forums and will keep doing so, but there is quite a lot of current affairs on here, and most of the hits for terms like Middle East are from those kinds of threads).

Thank you all in advance!

Kate
