Subject: Lyr Req: A Light Guitar In The Dusk Softly Strumm
From: apazo
Date: 04 Jun 16 - 01:44 PM

Hello, Most grateful if someone could help me with the lyrics of the rest of the song of which the first verse goes like this:

"A light guitar in the dusk softly strumming,
from far and near now the dancer's are coming,
The golden lanterns above us are swaying,
And in the soft evening air, voices ring, tra la la la . . .

(Chorus) We'll do a little dance together,
Chiquita is the one for me.

Thanks

I can't find it as a song, but here is a very similar poem by Barret Eastman (maybe it's based off this?)

https://books.google.com/books?id=9tlEAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA49&lpg=PA49&dq=Chiquita+Barrett+Eastman&source=bl&ots=GclsA_02-k&sig=T_cTbIo

It mentions Chiquita, dancing, and dusk guitars

Hi, apazo. I learned that song somewhere, probably grade school, and as I recall the words you wrote were all there was to it.

No, wait. We did two choruses, one where the boys said, "Chiquita is the one for me." Then the girls sang it again and said "Perico is the one for me."

But be careful, because I'm not sure Perico is right. Make sure it's a name.

Apparently the song is printed in "The Philippine Journal of Education," Volume 55, 1976, page 256. However, because that journal is still under copyright, Google doesn't display all of it. I wasn't able to extract any more words than Apazo already posted.

WorldCat might help you find it in a library near you:

It goes something like this

A light guitar in the dusk softly strumming,
from near and far now the dancers are coming
a red red rose in her hair look enchanting
... ???

We'll do a little dance together, Chiquita is the one for me
We'll do a little dance together, Perico is the one for me

that's all I can remember... the title can be Fiesta... not sure though.

A light guitar in the dusk softly strumming
From near and far now the dancers are coming
The golden lanterns above us are swaying
And in the soft evening air voices sing 'Tra la la la'

We'll do a little dance together
Chiquita is the one for me
We'll do a little dance together
Chiquita is the one for me

...

I remember the tune from primary school

a red, red rose in her hair how enchanting
and in her heart as we're gliding and swaying
i fondly hope sweet chiquita will say
tra la la la

we'll do a little dance together
perico is the one for me

The male name is likely Paquito.

(Boys): Now with a sweet senorita I'm dancing,
A red, red rose in her hair, how entrancing!
And in her heart, as we're gliding and swaying,
I fondly hope sweet Chiquita will say, tra la la la!
(Girls): We'll do a little dance together,
Perico is the one for me!
We'll do a little dance together,
Perico is the one for me!
