Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: GUEST,Mark Bluemel Date: 09 Jun 16 - 03:36 AM We'd finished our Sunday night gig and were packing up when an occasional visitor piped up "You didn't sing the one about the cow". We were somewhat confused, till he said "MacIntyre" at which point light dawned and we sang it to him as we finished packing up. |
Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: Ebbie Date: 08 Jun 16 - 08:00 PM Not a biggie but I did think that 'Grey Funnel Line' lauded the Great funnel line... |
Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: Georgiansilver Date: 08 Jun 16 - 06:05 AM I did mistakenly hear someone asking for Dolly Partons Greatest Tits once upon time. |
Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: Stanron Date: 08 Jun 16 - 06:04 AM We never did requests unless we were asked for them. |
Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: Steve Shaw Date: 08 Jun 16 - 04:49 AM That last one reminded me of the knock-knock one: Knock knock. Who's there? M A B it's a big horse M A B it's a big horse who? M A B it's a big horse I'm a Londoner... Christy Moore regaled us once with his tale of the man who rushed up to the stage, askiing him if he did requests. "What would you like me to sing?" asked Christy. "Ah, anything you like!" came the reply. |
Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: Mo the caller Date: 08 Jun 16 - 04:29 AM There's always the Chester Song...(at twilight) And the jockeys song.... Big horse, I love you so. And the French composer Jacky Bear. |
Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: GUEST,In good company Date: 08 Jun 16 - 04:18 AM I would have thought the opening one was more of a mondegreen but I see what you mean. On requests, one I recall was someone requesting Alan Taylors 'Roll on the day' by calling out, 'give us the one about the bloke with the chest' :-) At our folk club we often used to get asked for the DIY song - Polycell, oh Polycell, the grouting's now begun... Cheers Dave |
Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: Helen Date: 08 Jun 16 - 02:05 AM That's funny, Gerry! |
Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: GUEST,Gerry Date: 08 Jun 16 - 01:49 AM I think it was Colum Sands who said he got a request to sing the one about the woman with the hairy tongue. It turned out the request was for Black Velvet Band – "Her hairy tongue over her shoulder/Tied up in a black velvet band." And Enda Kenny (Australian singer-songwriter, not Irish poltician) has told the story of a request for the one he wrote about the two green cars. It was a song that mentioned peregrine falcons. |
Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: michaelr Date: 07 Jun 16 - 07:15 PM Me, at a Harvey Mandel concert: "Walk on the Water!" After the third time, Harvey gave me the stinkeye and said, "It's called Wade in the Water!" Oops. |
Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: GUEST,HiLo Date: 07 Jun 16 - 07:12 PM Lighten up Ed! For Gods sake. I am sure no harm or disrespect was meant! |
Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: GUEST,Ed Date: 07 Jun 16 - 06:46 PM From a Czech guy at a session in Edinburgh last Sunday: could we play "My bunny is over the ocean". So you want to snigger at people whose first language isn't English? You really are an arsehole sometimes, Jack. |
Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: GUEST,HiLo Date: 07 Jun 16 - 06:35 PM One of my older siblings thought that Mario Lanza was an Irish lady singer... Mary O'Lanza. she was very disappointed in the Student Prince! |
Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: fat B****rd Date: 07 Jun 16 - 04:10 PM An English ex pat working in a New York record shop was, allegedly, asked, in broad Brooklyneese, for "Da Biggest Tits of Pussy Face". i.e. "The Biggest Hits of Percy Faith". |
Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: Helen Date: 07 Jun 16 - 03:42 PM This isn't a song request but a book request at a library where I used to work. Tequila Mockingbird. Needless to say the library assistant was having no luck at all finding it in the catalogue. |
Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: cnd Date: 07 Jun 16 - 02:05 PM "Secret Asian Man," better known as "Secret Agent Man" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iaR3WO71j4 |
Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: leeneia Date: 07 Jun 16 - 02:01 PM And what is Secret Asian Man supposed to be? I used to think that Steeleye Span was the Steel Ice Band. |
Subject: RE: Discombobulated requests From: cnd Date: 07 Jun 16 - 01:12 PM Not a request to me, but once I was listening to a radio station and the disc jockey made fun of the person who called in for requesting "Secret Asian Man" |
Subject: Discombobulated requests From: Jack Campin Date: 07 Jun 16 - 11:56 AM From a Czech guy at a session in Edinburgh last Sunday: could we play "My bunny is over the ocean". Others like that? |
