Hi Woolsack - if it's this Saturday evening 30th July then John Goodluck and the Bards of the heath will be playing at the Cratfield Poacher Pub near Laxfield which isn't too far from Aldeburgh. The Eels foot at Eastbridge may have something on too. If August, try getting hold of 'Mardles' magazine which lists folk events all over Suffolk and Norfolk. Hope you find something to suit.

Hi both
Thanks for the info. I'll be staying in Yoxford a bit inland from Aldeburgh so suppose Cratfield and Eastbridge should both be pretty close from there. Who is John Goodluck? - sounds as though I should have heard of him.

Here is John Goodluck in a fairly recent video:

Otherwise you can refer to this website

If you're staying over anywhere near near Bury St Edmunds on Monday evening 1st August there's a Traditional Unaccompanied Singers' night at the Oakes Barn in Bury at 8pm see this site for details

Last Sunday of the month is traditional night at the incomparable 'Eel's Foot', so you should be OK for that. For future reference, Thursday nights there are 'anything goes' squit nights, which attract visitors from all over the UK and beyond.

John and his Bards are certainly worth seeing if you can get to the Poacher on Saturday. Try heading to Dennington then follow the signs to Laxfield and then all roads seem to lead to Cratfield (eventually!) Great pub - well worth finding.

For those of you who find the Cratfield Poacher hard to find, the full address is:

Bell Green, Cratfield, Halesworth IP19 0BL
Phone: 01986 798206

It'll be interesting to see how the full 8 piece Bards lineup fits in there on Saturday.

Hi All
Yes, the Bards of the Heath are looking forward to playing the at fabled 'Pooocher' on Saturday from around 8.30pm. It's always a good atmosphere there and it will be great to see friends both old and new. We've got a variety of songs and tunes, some recently written and others which go back to John's 'Suffolk Miracle' album for those of you with long memories.

Hope to see you there
