Subject: Submitting Lyrics To The D.B.
From: Clinton Hammond2

So how do I do it? Add lyrics to The Digitrad Data base thing... Or am I just missing that somewhere?

I also have a question regarding the structure of said Data base... at one time the songs were packed into zip files.. last time I downloaded and installed, I ended up with a folder with all the songs unpacked in it... on larger harddrives, smaller files can actually take up more room than stated because fo the sector size... Again, did I do something wrong?

Any help is appreciated here folks!

Yake Ye CAre Eh!

Only 16 more days!! hehehehehehehehe

There are a couple of ways to do it, I've noticed....

One is to post the lyrics to the Mudcat Forum. A quick scan will reveal threads with the heading "Lyric Add," and the name of the tune to which the lyrics pertain. As a guideline, you could click on one of these headings and note how other people have done it. Be aware that to get the proper formatting for verses and such requires the use of html tags, such as
for the line breaks; otherwise the lyrics you post will run together in a jumbled mess that makes it very hard to read (experience is the best teacher).

Another way to do it is to go to the box marked "DigiTrad Lyrics Search" and click on the pull-down menu arrow. Select "About The Digitrad" and click "Go." This will take you to a page that has a lot of information about the Digitrad data base. Under the "Official Rules" blue clicky thing Dick Greenhaus lists an email address to where you can send lyrics. Try this first to go there now, but in case it doesn't work or for future reference the e-mail address is: digitrad@world.std.com

..damn - second time today...I need to bone up on the html stuff.... the html tag I meant to post above was "br," located within the "less than" and "greater than" symbols.

Just a note on format:
The standard is to have the title of the song in ALL CAPS, and then the name of the songwriter in parentheses on the second line.

Oh, yes, and if you're posting songs here at the 'Cat, please put an HTML line break <br> at the end of every line, and TWO line breaks between stanzas (the <p> paragraph mark makes text that looks right, but the paragraph mark's double-space between stanzas doesn't copy over if you copy-and-paste to a word processor.

Which thread is the problem in, Cat? If you goof on HTML, just send me a personal message or post a message in the Help Forum (click), and I or a JoeClone© will do our best to fix it (I have an edit button).
