Jerry Donahue, guitarist of Fairport Convention, Fotheringay and The Gathering, suffered a stroke on Friday in Los Angeles, California. His friend, Susan Rey, posted this in Facebook:

As a lot of you have heard by now. One of my dearest and closest friends Jerry Donahue suffered a stroke on friday. He will need a lot of rehabilitation, love and support. Please if you make comments, only give healing and positive ones to support our dear friend.
Kristina Daly, Frank Badami, my hubby Peter Bellas and myself are caring for him 24 hours a day. He is in good hands. as far as visiting Jerry. It will be a long haul for him and he wishes that you respect his privacy except for a few of his very long time friends. if you would like to send him cards and love, please send them to me in care of Jerry Donahue and I will take them to him.
Susan Rey Bellas

Santa Clarita, ca 91390
I will keep you all updated as he gets stronger!

Thanks to Dusie Stockton Link for keeing me informed.

One of my favourite guitarists - the King of string bending - with his wonderful "Telecasting" record.

Get well soon, Jerry - you seem to be in good hands - let's hope that long haul turns into a short one!

Sorry! It's SUSIE Stockton-Link. My eyes are what they used to be...

Susan Rey is singer, mandolinist and guitarist with Jerry Donahue And Friends. Kristina Daly, Jerry's daughter, posted this on Facebook:

Facebook friends & fam,

My dad had a stroke on Friday and is in the hospital. Unfortunately, they missed the three hour window to treat and, due to the location of the blockage, it was too risky to perform surgery. So, they're holding him for now.

I flew out to LA to be with him and, though he is unable to speak, he did recognize me. He's very frustrated, as you can imagine, but we're trying to stay positive.

So thankful to Susan Rey & Frank Badami who saved my dad's life.

More news and information to come. Please keep my dad in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you and love to you all.

Kristina x

First day back at mudcat after nearly a week off, and I read this...

Jerry Donahue is one of my all time favourites,
pleased to have seen him a couple of times in the last 20ish years..

Even have some of his name endorsed JD10 preamps...

Positive thoughts and best wishes for JD....

Love Jerry's playing and I hope he makes some sort of recovery, but it sounds bad for any future playing.

I've seen Jerry a few times, and I am currently saving up to buy one of his Fret King Signature guitars.

Jerry's Going Around the Bend.

Very sad to have heard of this. Positive thoughts to him and his entire family right now. He is indeed a master and his playing ranks right up there for me.
